I'm so glad you liked it. Spoiler There are so many beautiful characters and moments in that book. Rudy and Liesel, Hans and Rosa, and Max were such wonderful characters. I smile every time I think about the Jesse Owens Incident. Hiding Max, the books Liesel and Max created, stealing apples, stealing books, and German swearing were also fun moments. My favorite snippet of that book is when Liesel is off to deliver laundry and spots Rudy playing soccer on the hill below. She stops and looks at him and mutters Saukerl. She sees him stop to look up at her and knows he's muttering Saumensch. That was just spot on perfect and always brings a smile to my face. When Rudy died and she kissed him was one of the most powerful moments I've read, and it resonated and I cried harder than I have at just about any scene I've read. It was so heartbreaking and sad but laced with such beauty and poignancy. I reread it for a book club last year, and it was an amazing reread. All of the beautiful moments and characters felt like bumping into old friends you hadn't had the pleasure to see in a while. I really can't think of another novel like The Book Thief. It was such a quirky, unexpected, and beautiful discovery. It's a crime that it's classified as young adult because a lot of people will overlook it. The writing style is not traditional, and it can throw some people off too. Zusak has written four other novels. The first three are very much young adult and not that great. His fourth was called I am the Messenger, and it was an interesting book. You could tell he graduated from young adult to this book before writing his masterpiece, The Book Thief. The ride was a fun one, but the ending fell flat for me. Zusak is working on a novel called Bridge of Clay, which he's had in development for over 10 years. The only real quote he's given about it: There were rumors it was coming out in 2012, but those have dried up. I have no idea when it will be released but that's a "Buy it Day One" novel for me.
I'm sorry, mate. I so wanted to like those books. arno_ed, please jump in and help this man out. If it's any consolation, the new Abercrombie novel just had its US release bumped up a month to October 25.
Hello guys, I'm looking for non-fiction books or autobiography books. Must be inspiring or must open my eyes and increase my knowledge on real world things.
Haha, I have to say that I didn't really like the beginning of the Crippled God. I do think that the ending makes up for the slow pace in the beginning of the book (similar to Toll the hounds).
Reading Dreams of My Father by Obama and The Creators by Boorstin. So far, Obama's writing is really good. If you've never read Boorstin's epic hisotory books you should check them out.
Just finished The Greatest Show on Earth by Richard Dawkins yesterday. A marvelous book, presenting a very clear, coherent and complete picture on the theory of evolution by natural selection and (mainly) the mountains of evidence for it. There were some parts I would have liked expanded a bit more (because they seemed so fascinating), but the book is long as it is (obviously). Highly recommended!
Just finished Ready Player One. What a great book. Thanks to Clutch Fans I have found and enjoyed a number of great books over the past year or two (Water for Elephants, Racing in the Rain, and Ready Player One). Just downloaded this one from the library...
Just finished The Shadow of The Wind. Thanks Scribo for another great recommendation, it was a really enjoyable read. Fermin is one of my favorite characters from any book I've read. I know you said that the prequel was a letdown for you, and that a new one is going to be released soon. Is it worth a read, or would you skip it?
Heard great things about Savages and Kings of Cool by Don Winslow. Anybody read these and can suggest to me which one I should read first?
Really? Same I got it about a week ago and am about 200 pages through and think its pretty good. Im looking forward to reading the entire series.
I had to read a couple of books for school so I stopped reading for a while. I just started again and am about 250 pages through. The series seems to be more character driven than plot driven but I am enjoying it so far.

Doesn't get much more hardcore sci-fi than this. First contact book with a few twits based in the 2080s. I looked up terms more than I have for any book (thank goodness for in-app dictionaries). Still, a cool read if you're a sci-fi nerd, and it's free (look at the top of the page for different formats).
I like the character presentation, George Martin spreads out the appearances well so I'm always wondering what has happened to a few. I'm hoping all the plots will intertwine at the end though.
