Exactly (bolded part). I don't understand why all those that are SO SURE we are "only renting him for a season" can't see this.

By no means am I saying he won't walk to Dallas or Atlanta. But, no "sneaker deal" is going to be significantly better in those cities and neither will have an obviously better shot at winning.

Chance of him staying is better than most think.

And if he doesn't, we will not be in near as bad of shape going forward as most are thinking. (won't give up the farm or will sign and trade for likely comparable assets as we gave up)

I agree BUT in terms of negotiating power, Morey would say in any public or private discussion that he is trading for a 1 year rental of dwight howard. It means we offer a package that takes that into consideration, so less.

That is why I think many people are disgruntled by what we would GIVE UP in terms of assets, picks etc, because one can't be certain that he will or won't stay. As some have mentioned, he could have a offer on the table from Adidas for $100s of millions that would only activate in NY. So even if he makes less in BKLYN the value could still be way more to leave...

At any rate, I'm in the "don't mortage the farm" camp but mainly because I think Howard can be had for below market value and no other teams are stepping up for him.

So you're saying he'd sign for the MLE to play in Brooklyn next year?

Do you think it's feasible and viable to strike a deal that does NOT include Parsons, Motiejunas and Lamb? I'm really ok with parting with any other piece except those 3 mentioned...

Agreed. Definitely the best way to play the negotiating game ("Hey, we're only getting him for ONE YEAR"....)

By no means am I saying he WILL re-sign. I'm just saying the odds are much better than most seem to feel.

Would Morey be interested in a Melo/Chandler type package for Dwight? Who knows. A Lopez/Wallace or Lopez/Joe Johnson type package... to get Dwight to the NY area? I doubt it, but maybe. Seems like the ONLY way he ends up in NY area would be a trade, as though teams won't be able to take him on as a free agent.

I doubt the Clippers would be interested in moving Paul (assuming he re-signs there) or Blake, which would likely be the only players from the Clips Morey would be interested in.

That leaves the Lakers and Bynum. At this point, a year later, and realizing he can't get to NY or Brooklyn (if it IS all about SHOE money), does he agree to play for the Lakers? And Bynum would likely agree to play in Houston. I could see that happening.

But, Dwight simply walking away? To go to Atlanta or Dallas? I don't see that happening.

I feel Morey is smart enough to ensure we're "ok" when/if he was "forced" to trade Dwight.

I haven't really been following for a couple days.

Does the media think that ORL is any closer to dealing Dwight?

I'd like to see the Rockets get this deal done...and preferrably soon.

Media is under the impression all is quiet on the Dwight Howard trade front. They believe no one is close to a deal because the Magic are "taking their time" to find the best offer.

CF believes it's quiet because there is something lined up. Once offer sheets are settled, the belief is trade talks will really heat up and something will eventually get done because as time ticks, teams run out of options and patience on ways to deal for Dwight, leaving the Rockets in the best position to land him.

Why aren't we going after some free agents so that our available cap space for Orlando's trash is gone? We need an excuse to take Duwight ONLY

Probably not but if Adidas said here's guaranteed $400 Million with your name on it if you sign in New York + the MLE vs. the Max in Houston and a $100 M contract then most people would bolt (not saying that is true).

Also Brooklyn might find away to trade away x amount of players to create more cap..you never know. I agree the possibilities are slim but they still exist.

The point i'm making is do not assume he will re-sign with houston...play the game like he is a one year rental and act accordingly (what is that worth to the franchise? etc)

If that's true, we'll get Howard for even less than we thought. Morey will just convince Howard to work on getting healthy and he'll trade our top 3 pick for Rudy gay and CP3 sign and trade.

    yup:
    Raptors Pick
    Dallas Pick
    Martin
    White, Jones
    Patterson and/or Morris

    Take on 2 of Richardson/Duhon/Davis/Turky

Who can beat that 1 on 1? Still gets Orlando what it needs to rebuild on the fast track. I'm not saying that is who they will want, but again, I think they aren't coming from a position of power.

I think the key here is to add a 1st round pick and White AND Jones

Agreed. I think most likely would be a swap with LAL.

I think though they would be able to demand more of our assets. Not saying we wouldn't do that or prefer that method but in a way, I could deal with taking on 1 bad contract (they aren't TERRIBLE) or 2 if we can hang on to our promising youngguns and get Dwight
