Even if Lin is terrible, you're only paying him big money for one year, it's not like a Rashard Lewis deal.

Renegotiating contracts is not allowed in the NBA.

If the Knicks match, Step 2 in Morey's plan will commence.

The Lin deal is structured so it does not become cap prohibitive until after the Rockets have had their shot at resigning Dwight and possibly one more Max player for the 2013season. The Rockets will almost surely pay a tax in the 3rd year of the deal, but it should hurt the owner's overall bottom line less since there will be a lot of marketing money in the kitty to pay for the big salary year.

( and the marketing opportunities internationally for Dwight, paired with Lin should be an offset for his lost shoe money by not being in NY)

This is what I don't get about the NY media and the NY people. I'm pretty sure Lin is grateful for the Knicks, the franchise has obviously done a lot for him. But at the same time, what was he supposed to do, turn down guaranteed money?

Seriously, why are they expecting him to play for less? I mean, should we be mad at Goran Dragic because he went to play for PHX, which offered him 9M a year with a player option? Or how about Scola, how dare he go to a WCF team after we saved him from the Spurs purgatory? He should have made it clear he'll play like crap unless he goes to an Eastern team so we only see him 2x a year

Regarding NY, honestly the cap hit is not that big a deal to NYC, like I said they would match it without a doubt since they could recoup all the $$$ with merchandise and publicity. But the problem here is that the players don't want Lin around, esp. Melo who probably felt he got blamed for the ending of Linsanity and Woodson, who probably sees Lin as a D'Antoni product and wants none of it.

So may things right will cause a ton of problems for the Knicks, from the $$$, to the inability to sign players, but IMHO the most important factor right now is its Lin vs the entire NY team. With SAS riling the NY fans up it might be Lin vs the fans soon as well. I think they won't match, and frankly I'm amazed at how DM got it done. Him and his FO are amazing and I think they just vaulted on my personal list of best GM/FO in the league.

He really doesn't think much of Houston, huh?

What I find funny is how fast that article will disappear and will have never existed if the Knicks do end up matching.

They probably sold out. That may be why the sale of Lin's jerseys are off. :p

Stephen A. Smith is unabashedly a Knicks-only fan. Last year he straight out said that the only reason he cared about Linsanity was that Lin was doing it for the Knicks. I'll give him respect for not trying to hide his bias behind a veneer of objectivity like most of the rest of ESPN, but on this subject, he really shouldn't be considered much different than all the posters on Knicks forums, upset that their team has been outmanuvered for a player that they wanted to keep.

He's pretty much just a jilted fan.

Am I the only one SICK AND TIRED of how CAP space ignorant our own local Radio Talk Show Hosts are?

I can't listen to one more show that says "If we sign Lin - we can't sign Howard." or We wouldn't be able to add another top tier player.

It's embarrassing that guys on the Rockets new flagship can't even get this right.
