Pretty Ignorant comment. It really shows his perspective and why his efforts to boost this recovery have been unresponsive.

Of course business here benefits from a legal system, certain protections and such. It creates an environment that spurs the entrepreneurial spirit. But to say one that saved and sacrificed to start their own business or strive to achieve more didn't do it and to take away from the risk-takers that make this country great is just very sad.

Good thing that's not what he said. In fact, he specifically said that people succeed because of what they do individually.

It's fascinating to me how people are so easily swayed by soundbites, as if reading 2 paragraphs was just asking too much.

Pretty ignorant that you commented without understanding the statement.

    indeed:

"It is the eternal struggle between these two principles--right and wrong--throughout the world. They are the two principles that have stood face to face from the beginning of time; and will ever continue to struggle. The one is the common right of humanity, and the other the divine right of kings. It is the same principle in whatever shape it develops itself. It is the same spirit that says, "You toil and work and earn bread, and I'll eat it." No matter in what shape it comes, whether from the mouth of a king who seeks to bestride the people of his own nation and live by the fruit of their labor, or from one race of men as an apology for enslaving another race, it is the same tyrannical principle."

I think I'm just going to start adopting the soundbite philosophy now, since taking statements out of context seems to be the way to go. I think it's ridiculous that you think risk takers that make this country great are sad. You sound like an America-hater.

I can't believe the right wing nuts here thing that being in America doesn't help you succeed. If you want to do it alone try opening your business in Somalia, then you can say you did it all on your own without any help.

Sorry - I missed many pages in the middle part of this thread.

I don't think my shop pays too little in taxes.

I think it would be stupid to voluntarily pay more taxes and certainly don't like it if/when my taxes go up - but that's part of a cost of doing business. No different than wages or rent or any other business expense. I wouldn't voluntarily pay more of that stuff either. But I don't think it's unfair or unreasonable either.

If other people paid more, it may or may not make my business more successful - it would depend on what that money was spent on. If it was spent bombing Iraq, probably not. If it was spent helping to create jobs in Austin, creating more potential consumers for me, then it probably would.

I believe "that" in this case is referring to the roads and bridges, not the business itself.

this quote just goes to show what an out of touch anti-business idiot Obama is. wow. No wonder he can't do anything about the economy.

Apologies for entering the thread so late. I've been busy with other projects. That said, I was surprised to hear Obama tell me that I was not responsible for establishing three companies in the past 28 years. My cousin was equally amazed to discover that it was the government who created his business, which employs 86 people. We were just in the right place at the right time.:rolleyes: Tell that to any business owner who worked up to 20 hours per day to get a business off the ground.

On the bright side, soliciting money for the Romney campaign just got a lot easier.

so, although it's foolish to voluntarily pay more, you support a candidate that wants you, and everyone else who works, to pay more.
