Yeah. It wouldn't surprise me at all if they planned on matching the whole time, and are just putting this out there so the Rockets will hear it.

It's not about money anymore. Signing Lin will destroy the Knicks ability to sign players, trade for players and now it sounds like it will piss off it's players.

imo it is not out of the realm for the league office to 'revisit' the cba provisions if several teams all of a sudden are locked into 50 or 60 or 100 million dollar annual lux tax payouts and cry that their franchises might not be able to keep the doors open. kind of like the 'too big to fail' crutch...

This is true, but that also makes NYK and fans arrogant and ignorant for the whole 'he should show us gratitude' bs, because had it not been for the injuries, NYK was certainly not about to just GIVE Lin a shot - he only got the shot out of necessity. Now they act like they were this kind and benevolent monarch who granted Lin his opportunity out of the goodness of their hearts.

BS. They only want him to stay out of greed. And the way you get through to the greedy is by taking their precious $$ away, which is exactly what will happen if they match.

Lin does not owe the Knicks anything, and the way they lowballed him while at the same time talking about how their stock was up by hundreds of millions or whatever, it's a slap in the face if it's anything. Plus, Melo is a douche, that team is going nowhere fast, and if I was Lin I would want out of there too.

Stupid move, considering Melo and JR Smith have already come out in the media bashing Lin's contract.

If this is Dolan "playing" anyone, it's himself. That is a locker room disaster right there.

Man, Stephen A is really upset about this. If you read his articles he is now trashing the Rockets.

Even Sekou Smith of the NBA Hangtime Blog doesn't grasp that the Rockets will be paying him 8.3/8.3/8.3 instead of the 5/5/15 the Knicks would.

Also: What is Steven A Smith's problem?

Do the Rockets always get a damn backlash every time they make a good move?

Well you have to realize, the ROX this offseason helped squash Dwight to the Nets which infuriates Stephen A and the NY writers and now they might steal Lin who is a huge topic for those guys and a money maker. We've declared war on the two NY basketball teams lol. Expect to get treated very poorly by the big ESPN writers going forward.

We are actually paying him 5/5/15. He's counting against our cap as 8.3/8.3/8.3

They mad. They so, so mad.

Even if the Rockets end up with jacks**t after this offseason, I will happily go to the bottom of the lottery knowing we completely screwed over a couple of big market franchises and infuriated their media lapdogs.

One thing that gives me pause, though.

The issue isn't just *Lin's* contract, it's the contracts of Amare, Melo, etc. Isn't it possible that Dolan will bet that, in the next two years, he'll be able to successfully renegotiate at least one of those other headaches? Lin is just the straw that breaks the camels back, he's not the main reason they'll be over the cap. So if he can find a way to trade/re-jigger any of those other 4 guys he'll dodge the bullet. I'm not saying this would be easy, but I'm saying it's a plausible gamble that I could see Dolan making.

Ha! Guess what, SAS? Even if Houston does make it to the NBA Finals, the Knicks will still only see them twice a season.

I don't even have to read his articles to know that he hates the Rockets... "Almost" no one at ESPN likes the Houston Rockets.

Watching the highlights of this game got me really excited for Linsanity. Random players don't have these types of games, especially against teams like the Lakers. Lin is a good player. I'm not saying he's an all-star PG but obviously he has the potential to be a very good starting PG in this league. Dude can score and pass.
