2012: Saturday Morning Cartoons Suck

That isn't a good cartoon.

This was. And there were dozens. Think of it as the weiner races at Milwaukee, but with more plot. Plus, as a child, you always had a favorite.

And Muttley was badass.

Yeah he didnt say "I don't like Cartoons being serious" . He coulda ended it at "Serious cartoons are lame". But was no preferences about it, he said [ANY] Cartoons should NOT be serious. Not a very agreeable statement lol. Thats almost like the "Basketball teams should NOT acquire THUGS" sentiment. Maaaybe it shouldnt be. Or you can watch WNBA to to keep away from that element to suit yourself.

Seriously go watch the episode with Darkseid in it. Pure gold.

 

This. The "Apokalips... Now!" and "Legacy" 2 parters on Superman: The Animated series, Justice League 2 parter "Twilight," and Justice League: Unlimited finale "Destroyer" all feature Darkseid, all exist within the same continuity, and all are AWESOME. Highly recommend watching them all in order if you get a chance.

 

One of my fondest childhood memories is getting up on Saturday mornings and watching cartoons with my sister while sharing cereal with her, both of us eating right out of the box.

I recall that before the new seasons started in September, the three networks would have a Friday night special announcing the Saturday morning cartoon lineup. It was a big deal in our house. After all three networks had heir special, my sister and I would decide which ones we wanted to watch.

 

You know what ? After some thought. It would be a disgrace to call Justice League a cartoon.

I prefer animated movies.

 

I only watched Batman: The Animated Series back in the day, but I'm curious on catching up with the whole DC Animated Universe. I've watched a few episodes of Batman Beyond and enjoyed it. According to Wikipedia, the following were considered part of the same continuity:

The New Batman/Superman Adventures (1997–2000)
The New Batman Adventures (1997–1999)

For those who have watched all or most of these, what order would you suggest tackling them in?

And any suggestions for DC stuff released outside of this previous set? I've seen The Batman, and I've heard rave things about Young Justice. I'm excited about watching some of this stuff myself, and I'm looking forward to introducing my kids to them in 3-4 years.

 

Some of that Sunday stuff was pretty weak sauce, though. I remember sitting through tiresome crap like Inhumanoids (?) and Captain Planet, whoever's bright idea that was. I believe the first post-Optimus/Megatron Transformers was pushed off to Sunday mornings too once they realized the new characters didn't take. Ironically I think Channel 20 started showing some biblical cartoon with a few episodes: Joseph, Samson and Delilah; that were well drawn and genuinely engaging.

I remember the promos but for some reason I don't recall CBS doing one, it might have been tricky with Falcon Crest and some of their other '80s/early '90s Friday night fare.

The ABC one sticks out more in my mind than anything; partly because they added those catchy bumper promos, and because I remember seeing the Hammerman cartoon preview: and having my ten-year old younger brother turn to me, close his eyes and shake his head.

If you watch it in this order you should not get lost especially if you have any knowledge of the characters going into it.

 

It's centered around a character in one of the episodes of Batman Beyond, so it's set way in the future.

My sister and I also did this on Saturday mornings. When were a bit older, we learned how to mix it up and make pancakes.

I remember those Friday night previews. We'd have serious debates about who won the lineup previews and would plan on which shows we'd watch from 7-11. It's kind of reminds me of the post E3 debate and who won arguments. Sometimes we'd have to work out which show we'd watch because we'd disagree about a timeslot, and with only one TV (gasp) and no DVR, that stuff was serious.

I was born 1972, and my sister is a year younger.

 

I saw this today:

Apparently it's going to have a similar look and feel to The Green Lantern. It looks like there's some overlap with the production teams, and I'm hoping Bruce Timm gets involved with Beware the Batman. It'll be interesting watching Batman without the usual villains around, but I've enjoyed what I saw of Batman Beyond without the gallery of rogues. Sounds like it'll be fun.

 

Doesn't look like Timm is going to be part of it, plus he's still rolling out top line animated features for DC, can't wait to see his take on The Dark Knight Returns that coming out.
