They will match, they still have the whole of next year (after July 2013) to trade him if he doesn't play well or his contract becomes too expensive.
The whole point of signing him to the contract is to make him too toxic to trade. Which team will absorb a 15M cap hit on year? Even better, which team will accept that 15M cap hit knowing they would be turning down an awful lot of luxury tax money courtesy of the NYC?
Maybe Morey is saving NY GM Grunwald from a lot of pain by taking Lin off his hands with the higher bid that he can not match. Hmmm strange as it sounds ... maybe DM just did the dude a huge favor and saved his ass? But still it was fun to watch go down.. winner winner Daryl Morey chicken dinner!.... hahahaha And Lin is a good point guard for us to have.. plus he is a stand up guy that is smart as heck. Talks better than shane battier. zzpot.
I don't think they'll be mad when they land Chris Paul next summer and Lin turns out to be what he is, backup PG.
Hmmm 15mil expiring is definitely tradeable if Lin doesnt pan out. At the same time during Linsanity MSG's stock value has gained around 150mil to 200mil according to nypost, I guess the 42.5mil possible luxury tax isnt that bad after all. Glad the Knicks isn't gonna match.
I'll leave this here... http://fivethirtyeight.blogs.nytimes.com/2012/02/11/jeremy-lin-is-no-fluke/ see article for chart...
Honestly, when I think about that.....I think Knicks will match regardless. I'd rather have Lin that Machedo.
The Post reported on its back page Saturday the Knicks were furious the Rockets changed the offer sheet for Lin and upgraded it to a $25 million guarantee over three years, according to a source. The Knicks were bitter because they told Lin immediately the club would match the original offer and Lin apparently shared the information with the Rockets. Lin and Houston then plotted to redo it. Lin secretly flew into Las Vegas without informing the Knicks to renegotiate the contract and sign it. The Knicks had been set to match Lin’s original offer sheet of four years, $28.9 million that had a $19 million guarantee before the Rockets threw a financial curveball that called for a $15 million third year that would have doomed owner James Dolan’s luxury-tax predicament. m.nypost.com/p/sports/knicks/source_knicks_won_match_lin_offer_IaFOfENCk85407zzt3ynxK#ixzz20gUbCNsA
