You look at big threes currently in the league order by their "bigness" on their team... Miami: Lebron, Wade, Bosh OKC: Durant, Westbrook, Harden L.A.: Kobe, Nash, Gasol Bos (in prime): Garnet, Pierce, Allen S.A. (in prime): Duncan, Manu, Parker Ok, so Where do you put Dwight in there? Is Dwight a Lebron, Durant, Kobe, Duncan, or KG? I say no. Maybe you make the case on KG level but still, 1 our of 5 i say no. Ok, next level. Is he a Wade, Westbrook, Nash, Pierce, or Manu? Obviously his defense and rebounding as a big man sure. But his offense? Questionable. But I will give you that here. So Dwight is the number 2 guy of a big three. Ok, No way Lin is in that first tier. And I don't think he is Wade, Westbrook, Nash, Pierce or Manu either. So is he in that third tier? Tony Parker? Ray Allen? Gasol, Bosh? Ok, I will say that if he continues to develop, he can be there. So now you need a guy who is going to be the first tier guy. The superstar of your team. I don't know Motiejunas very well, but I would bet a lot of money, and I mean a lot, that he isn't going to turn into Lebron James, Kobe Bryant, Tim Duncan, Or KG, Kevin Durant. So no, these guys have no chance of being a big three.
There will be no circus. Lin was a circus because it was a feel good story and because it was NYC. This year everyone expects him to play well and he will be in Houston. No circus. No big deal.
Marc Stein @ESPNSteinLine Jeremy Lin clock did eventually, officially start tonight after all the, uh, delays. NYK have until 11:59 PM TUES to match on Lin. Or pass
Uh, Dwight Howard is definitely capable of being the top superstar on a championship team. So what if he's not as good as those 5 in their prime? Very few people fit that bill. 20 and 10 post players with his defense are definitely the lead player in a successful big 3. Comparing him to the Westbrook's and Manu's of the group is underselling him.
Yeah, you're wrong. The Lin circus went to every city he played in and not just NYC. You didn't pay much attention maybe.
Marc Stein @ESPNSteinLine Also told Rockets, even if they unexpectedly land Lin AND Omer Asik, still think they've got Dwight trade offers (yes, plural) to please ORL
No, the point is that he's Chinese-American and he had a freaking amazing story. All of that plays no matter what city he plays in.
It would not have recieved as much attention if he had been a Buck. No Way At All. The story was hyped for many reasons and among them was that he was seen as the savior of the NYK last season when the team was going down hill with Amare, Tyson and Melo. NYC is the biggest media market in the country. If you don't see that then you are blind.
If Morey trades for and signs D12 to a max contract extension. ObamaFan would say, he is no Dream.... good job Morey.
I was just looking for some games to see Lin against Deron and Wade. I did find a good video of him vs. Deron, and I must say, he handled himself extremely well! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jm08XE4XLZY
No he'd say "You pissed of ORL. Good job Morey. Stop trying to build a team and start trying to make other GMs happy ."
Lin- unproven. 25 games doesn't prove a thing. Lamb- unproven. Rookie. Parsons- meh Motiejunas- unproven. Another hyped Euro player. Summer League doesn't mean a thing. Howard- unproven after back surgery. I doubt that diva even stays past next season if he comes here. My pants are still dry.
While this is true, let's not act like being in NY and MSG didn't have something to do with it. The story isn't as big if he were playing for the Bucks.
