The River went 1-3 with 2 walks and 2 runs scored in his debut. Not bad.

Not bad indeed.

I noticed that the guy who started at 3B over Rio (Darwin Rivera) also has pretty decent stats. Does anyone know anything about him?

$300,000 International signing from 08. But most importantly is almost 21 and playing in the gcl. Take his stats with a grain of salt at this age-level.

Rivera started last year at the Academy. After 12 games there, the Astros sent him to Greeneville, where he was the regular 3B. He looked as if he was overmatched, hitting .224/.275/.327 with 4 homers and 26 RBI in 59 games. Committed 30 errors in 57 games at 3B last season.

Damn that is awful news He was having a great year. Terrible April but the rest of the year he was great. Even showing a lot of power. Still only 21 years old. Should be the starting SS next year in OKC.

Apparently punched a wall in anger between innings.

Not very smart.

Full-season teams....

Tri-City just keeps on rolling. Rio Ruiz played in his first game as a member of the Astros organization.

Recap

OKC got skunked 8-0 by New Orleans, as Matt Dominguez went 2-3 with a double against his former employers. And that was it. Armando Galarraga allowed 5 runs on 6 hits (3-run homer) in 5 innings, walking 5 and striking out 3.

Bleeping Jonathan Villar....

Well, at least Corpus scored some runs. Unfortunately, the pitching staff decided to embarrass themselves against Frisco by allowing 19 hits in an 11-7 loss. Rob Rasmussen was roughed up, as he allowed 6 runs on 8 hits in 3+ innings (pitched to 2 batters in the 4th) and walked 1 while failing to record a strikeout. Henry Villar and Erick Abreu worked 2 innings apiece and allowed a run in their outings, and Josh Zeid was touched up for 3 runs in the 8th. He threw a scoreless 9th, striking out 2. Andy Simunic replaced Villar at short and he went 1-5 with 2 runs scored out of the #2 spot. Jake Goebbert had a double and 2 RBI. Drew Locke and Jordan Kreke drove in 1 each. Jonathan Singleton went 2-5 with a double and scored twice.

Lancaster got whacked 11-3 by Modesto in their series opener, as the Jethawks got their 3 runs in the 6th, on an Erik Castro RBI double, and a 2-run homer from Domingo Santana (13). Santana, Castro, and George Springer combined for 6 of Lancaster's 8 hits. Ben Heath and Enrique Hernandez each had a hit. In 5 innings, Jorge De Leon allowed 6 runs on 9 hits (2-run homer), walked 2, and struck out 3. Pat Urckfitz allowed 2 in 2 innings, and Kirk Clark allowed 3 in the 8th. Jose Trinidad threw a scoreless 9th.

Lexington was never really in their game with Hagerstown, as they allowed the Suns to jump out to an 8-0 lead on the way to a 9-4 loss. Mike Kvasnicka and Chan-Jong Moon had 2 RBIs apiece. All 4 Legends runs were scored in the 8th, with Kvasnicka hitting a 2-run single, and Moon ripping a 2-run double. Both of them finished 2-4, with Moon adding another double, and Kvasnicka hitting another single. Nolan Fontana went 3-4 with a run scored. In his first start since being promoted from Tri-City, Juri Perez allowed 5 runs on 6 hits in 4 innings. He walked 3 and struck out 6. Evan Grills allowed 3 runs on 4 hits (2-run homer) in 2 innings, striking out 1. Nathan Pettus finished the game with 3 innings, allowing a run on 4 hits, walking 2, and striking out 1.

Also, we have another promotion to report.

BREAKING: Legends SS Chan Moon promoted to A+ Lancaster. Since Villar might be done for the season, I'm thinking that Andy Simunic will man the SS position in Corpus, or they'll move Ben Orloff up to be the regular SS from here on out.

Tri-City just keeps winning. And when they win, it's usually no contest. Tonight, they took their series opener with Jamestown in convincing fashion, winning 11-1. Andrew Aplin tripled, walked, and scored twice. Austin Elkins went 2-6 with 2 RBI (double and single) and scored 3 times. Jesse Wierzbicki went 3-5 with 2 RBI. Ryan Dineen channeled his inner Andrew Aplin, as he singled in his only official at-bat, stole a base (3), and walked 4 times. Emilio King had a 2-run triple, and Tyler Heineman went 2-5 with an RBI double and an RBI groundout. Aaron West continues to impress, as he allowed a run on only 3 hits and struck out 4 in 6 innings. John Neely got the 3-inning save, allowing a hit, 2 walks, and striking out 1.

Greeneville's game against Bristol was rained out. They'll play a doubleheader tomorrow.

The GCLstros topped the Nationals 8-6, as The River, Rio Ruiz, made his debut. The #2 hitter and the DH, he went 1-3 with 2 walks and 2 runs scored. Darwin Rivera went 3-4 with 3 RBI, 2 coming on a homer (3) in the 6th. Jose Solano hit a solo homer (1) in the 4th. Yonathan Mejia had an RBI groundout, then Edwin Gomez followed that up with an RBI double. After that, Teoscar Hernandez drove Gomez in with an RBI triple. Jose Valdez allowed a hit, walked 1, and struck out 2 in the 1st. Raul Rivera allowed 2 runs (1 earned) in 2 innings. Edison Frias got the win as he threw 4 innings, allowing a run on 4 hits, walking 2 and striking out 1. Brandon Culbreth allowed 3 runs (all unearned) in the 9th. Erick Gonzalez notched his 6th save of the season.

Game Scores

Armando Galarraga: 33
Rob Rasmussen: 18
Jorge De Leon: 26
Juri Perez: 33
Aaron West: 66
Jose Valdez: N/A

Three Stars

3.

Rio Ruiz, 3B, GCL Astros
1-3, 2 BB, 2 R

Not a bad debut. With his health scare in mind, he'll probably stay in Kissimmee all season. Greeneville in 2013?

2.

[IMG] [IMG]

Darwin Rivera, 3B, GCL Astros
3-4, 2-R HR (3), 3 RBI

In Rivera's defense, this is technically his age 20 season. Could see time in either short-season club (he'll most likely have to solve Greeneville first)before this season is over.

Domingo Santana, RF, Lancaster
2-4, 2-R HR (13)

This may be the breakout we've been looking for out of Santana. Insert standard "It's Lancaster" comment here. However, his road splits aren't dramatically worse.

1.

Aaron West, P, Tri-City
W, 6 IP, 3 H, ER, 4 K, 66 GS

I kept thinking that West had aspirations of being a CIA agent. Wrong federal agency. Diamond in the rough alert???!!!

Honorable Mentions

Chan-Jong Moon, SS, Lexington: That's a nice way to go out before moving on up.

Erik Castro and George Springer, Lancaster: The two of them, along with Santana, were pretty much the offense.

Goat

Here is an appropriate picture to sum up the night for the full-season teams:

Looking Ahead

OKC will be looking to have a better showing against New Orleans in their series finale at 6:05. Brett Oberholtzer will match up against Tom Koehler.

Corpus and Frisco will wrap up their series at 6:05. Jarred Cosart was activated from the 7-day DL and will start for the Hooks. He will go up against Cody Buckel.

Lancaster and Modesto will play the middle game of their series at 5 Pacific. The pitching matchup will be Tyson Perez facing Tyler Matzek.

Lexington and Hagerstown are back at it at 1:35 Eastern. The pitching matchup is TBD, although I think Mike Foltynewicz will be the starter for the Legends.

Tri-City and Jamestown will play the middle game of the series at 1 Eastern. TBD will go up against TBD.

Greeneville and Bristol will play 2, with game 1 beginning at 6 Eastern. Frederick Tiburcio will take the mound for the Appy Astros. He will be opposed by Euclides Leyer. Game 2 will start 45 minutes-1 hour after the conclusion of Game 1.

Oh, and this guy definitely deserves a nod as goat for his.... ill-fated decision to fight the bathroom door.

They're just dancing around the moves all the fans are expecting: Springer to CC, DDJ to Lancaster, etc.

Groin injury has been bothering him. I think he'll be good to go this week. Maybe.
