i just saw an interview with stephen a smith on espn. he said dwights camp is saying that if dwight is traded to houston he will leave after his contract is up.

bs? smoke screen? that helps us drive the price down at least.

    did anyone else see this?

Exactly. Plus, they ended up getting the max years and raises anyway, since LeBron/Bosh (as you said) had the leverage to tell their original teams they could sign there regardless, given Miami's cap room. That eventually forced the hand on a S&T. Howard has no team in NY, LA or Chicago with cap room.

The fact that's clear in Howard's case is greed outweighed happy. It's obvious he always wanted Brooklyn. But when he realized he wasn't getting traded to Brooklyn at the deadline, he opted in and decided to play the "trade me only there" card again this summer, in hopes of getting the team he wanted on the EXACT contract he wanted.

Dwight was six weeks away from complete freedom and having the ability to make the choice himself. He turned it down over one extra contract year and additional money on raises. That's how much he values every last cent. The idea that he's about "being happy" is just ludicrous.

Nothing new. Exactly what he's said, through "sources", all along.

Morey is running a business, not raising a family. You may have fun seeing them swinging and going down year after year, after year. The majority of people do not. Winning a championship is not only the goal of playing period, it is also what is best for business. Every move he has made the past 2 years have led to this point. It is fine to back away if a deal is not to our long term well being. But to fail to pull the trigger merely due to petty attachments to replaceable players?

You said something about "human nature", well, life lesson:

To achieve success in life, and especially in business, always go against human nature. Because the vast majority of humans are idiots by nature.

Interesting cause i remember hearing it was more than that....

    found this: http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/news/story?id=5368003

Apparently they took 15 mill less, each?

I'm sure that figure is embellished tho....or maybe not.

The $300K/year was in relation to their original offer/agreement with Miami. The $15 mil over the life of the contract is because they eventually were able to get sign and trades (and higher raises, extra year, etc.).

Whichever metric you use, I think you see the point - they signed for six-year, $110 million deals. Night and day different from suggesting Howard might sign for the $3 million exception just to make himself "happy".

Maybe, maybe no. But these guys took a discount to join forces and pay for some help (retain Haslem, add Mike Miller) to an otherwise depleted supporting cast.

Howard, if he leaves for a team with $20M cap room, will not have the same motivation.

Also, remember the old CBA is different, in that Lebron and Bosh were able to get the same 6 yr deals that they could have got from their old teams from Miami as long as they go by S&T, which they did. They didn't have to accept one year less guaranteed though they were prepared to do so do the straight signing and forego the extra yr, so they were, in a way, already playing with house money. Under the New CBA, any money that Howard gives up will be IN ADDITION TO the extra yr and % he already have to give up by signing with an ouside team.

Steven A is in the same boat as Bucher. Right now ESPN and all the NY/LA big media market reporters are pissed. Their panties are in a twist that Orlando refused to gift wrap Dwight Howard for the Pupu Platter and draft picks until 2046.

They're going to use whatever clout they have (read: non) to try to influence Dwight to leave Houston should he get traded there. In exchange, us Houston fans will have to console ourselves with the sweet taste of their tears.

    Kmart
    Jones
    White
    unguaranteed contracts
    Raptor pick
    Dallas pick
    NY 2nd rders

    for Dwight, Hedo, Duhon

We can then buyout Hedo and Duhon next season.

Substitute hedo for Jrich and add Morris and i think that will be the trade we make with ORL

Hedo is an expiring so i doubt they would wnat to get rid of him as much as richardson..
That would make me happier though to take on hedo , then we can resign lee and have hedo backup parsons

So, in a year [after a first round exit and Howard leaving] you can begin the rebuilding with young talent and picks or with virtually nothing . Hmmm...... I have been a Rocket fan since they drafted the "Big E" , but if they do this I am done with them.

Yes for the right deal. could lead to so many more options in the future. No to obviously that dumb espn deal which could be bad news for the franchise..but Morey is not stupid..so basically yes. for only kmart, one rook, and raptors draft pick. and only accepting one bad contract
