The odd thing about that Knicks thread is that I don't think we have waived Harrellson as they have claimed. On the Chron's rockets page he is still listed on the roster and I haven't read anywhere that we have waived him. I think the problem they have is that the CBA is trying to destroy the big market cities from having super teams.

As for Dwight watch,I was watching ESPN and they said a deal wont be likely until after the Asik and Lin offers are settled. Next Thurs/Fri should be interesting. Morey is really screwing those teams with the poison pills though. Sure is fun to watch.

If Lin join us, do we still have cap space for Asik and maybe Brooks?

I highly enjoyed that thread. They keep saying things like, "this is against the spirit of the new CBA", without realizing that teams like the Knicks and Lakers are EXACTLY the kinds of teams the CBA was intended to impose restrictions on. With stiffer luxury tax penalties coming in 2014, the hope on the owners' side was that the wanton shelling out of contracts league wide would be curbed, that owners with bottomless pockets would not be able to spend without consequence. The soft cap is good for the NBA because it allows dynasties to persist somewhat, unlike the NFL where a dynasty would constitute any team that could even make the playoffs for five years in a row. So you are allowed to have teams like OKC and Miami go over the cap temporarily to build around their superstars and then go back under when their championship window has closed.

But teams that just live up there? Screw them. They are meant to be screwed. If we don't do it, someone else will. Yes it's true Lin will be overpaid wherever he ends up. But if we were to win him I don't think any Rockets fans would be too upset. He's better than what we got right now, and we can afford him given how far under the cap we are. In reality Knicks fans should be more upset at management for giving out a max to Amare and Carmelo, preCBA. And then overpaying for Chandler. That's what got them in this mess. Truth be told they're the joke franchise that hasn't mattered since Ewing retired. The nature of RFA is you overpay a free agent to pry him away from his original team; if NY finally cannot take the cost of matching, then that means we were successful. And the CBA was too.

This is good news, but this is just negotiation 101 so if the trade goes through we'll probably give up a few more first round picks or 2 of this year's rookies and take probably 2 bad contracts. No way the Magic will just unload one. All the articles and tweets stating we were close, giving up .... players, .... rookies and taking back x amount of contracts was all pure speculation. This is such an emotional time though, you can't fault us fans for jumping ship when we read this stuff. I will try to stop trusting anything from ESPN and focus on Jonathan Feigen and Woj to break the news.

After Brooklyn fell through and L.A. seems unlikely, this is all I need to hear (with no update to the contrary) to believe this trade, if made, will take us from the chronic 9th seed to the chronic last seed, and for many years to come.

I don't work for the Rockets and I don't make money when they win championships 10 or 20 years in the future. If they can't make watching Rockets basketball fun for me I will stop watching.

And they have recently ditched every single player I like on the roster other than Chandler Parsons.

I don't believe that Morey or anyone else can convince Dwight to stay if we get him as a rental and I don't even believe Morey believes it. I think he is just desperate.

Although I'm glad to hear a report that indicates we're not giving up the entire farm in this pursuit, I'm over it. I don't want an all-star that can't wait to leave. And I firmly believe that's what we'd be getting.

Yes we'd have Bird rights, yes we could offer more money at the end of the year, but for what? He doesn't want to live here or play here. And he has hell of money anyway. Maybe he'd rather be happy. It certainly seems that way. And at the end of the year he can choose whichever team he wants if he's willing to go at a discount.

With every passing day I believe he is.

I HATE being a Rockets fan this summer. We've lost every player I loved but one and we're likely to give him up in a trade for a guy that can't stop talking about how badly he doesn't want to be here.

    I follow basketball for fun.

    How is this fun?

Neither what espn nor this report would get a deal done IMO. Its gotta somewhere in between.

My prediction: Martin, Patterson, Lamb, Morris/Jones + 2 1st rd picks for Dwight, J-Rich, Davis/Duhon.

I think this is the one year where losing would be just as fun as winning. You've seen the potential in our SL team. I don't think it's out of the realm of possibility to say that between our four new rookies, two would emerge as longterm starters for us. And then there would be our two draft picks that should be high up.

If we trade the farm, or hopefully half the farm, for Dwight? Then you're looking at a situation where we could have the cap space to build our own Big Two in the next offseason. You can't take Dwight's posse's intimations about leaving Houston at face value. 1. He's not here yet. 2. He has nowhere else to go. All the competitive teams and ones previously rumored to be competing for him will not have cap space to sign him to a max deal outright next yr. He would be choosing essentially between us or Dallas for 25 million less. We would both have the capability to take on Chris Paul at a max where he to be amenable to such a thing. All things equal I feel our chances at keeping Dwight are better now than they've ever been. New Jersey's completely out the window. Now he has to go back to the drawing board inside his head and rethink priorities.

I am much happier about this offseason than previous ones, because for the first time since 2009 we actually have hope. Something is going to give, and we know this for sure now that Dragic, Lowry, and Scola are gone. Before there was no light at the end of the tunnel, and now there is one.

Did he say losing would be as fun as winning. Please give me what you're smoking cause I world just isn't as good as yours. How about we trade all our players for the U/H Downtown intramural team. I mean losing is just as good as winning right?

Don't be a sheep. Is everyone blind to the fact that Al Jefferson is the ranked the second best center in the league? Morey should stop stalking Howard, stop begging and trade for Jefferson and Rudy Gay. If the Knicks don't match Lin and Donuts keeps getting better our starting five would be good enough to contend in the west.

    PG: Lin
    SG: Lamb
    SF: Gay
    PF: Donuts
    C: Jefferson

Aldridge always in the NETS or Lakers wagon
    never trust this guy
you gotta believe that such reporters are paid to write such articles

the other thing is about the deal: if this is true, this means that Morey is not willing to lose all the young talent and picks we have, or it's a negotiation tactic

whatever happens, this is an amazing offseason:grin::grin:

Cant stand this argument we have been nothing but a first round exit late lotto pick team for to long, average at best. No player is bigger than the team and changes are finally being made whether we are going young and bad for a while or whether we end up getting dwight these changes needed to be made. Stop watching then if your beloved players are gone.

I certainly don't believe Dwight Howard will stay in Houston, and even if he does come to Houston this season, I doubt we're going to win the championship with the West being as stacked as it is. As soon as Dwight leaves after his single season in Houston is over, we're going to go back to being a mediocre team. I want to see our young guys get chances; I want to see our young guys become a part of the team and stay for more than one year. I want to see a star bud in Houston and not have to be imported for only one season from another team. If we're going to tank after Dwight is gone anyway, we might as well tank now and have some fun seeing the young guys play.

Sorry for the double post, but this is something I definitely didn't think about, and I agree with you. 2013 has a pretty nice list of free agents (Iggy, Josh Smith, and Bynum).
I guess I just don't want to see Lamb and White gone from this team. Those guys really look like they're going to become something.

I am glad to hear Morey will not be taken in by a rookie GM. The proposed trade here is much better and if the Magic want to unload its high priced players they can waive them or amensty one.

It isn't fun to say goodbye to your favorite players. But this is a results based business and getting attached is a bad idea. 3 straight years of near playoff / late lottery purgatory prove that being the prettiest ugly girl at Stern's proletariat rodeo will get you nowhere fast.

As for the trade, Morey must be having fun flaunting the rookies before Hennigan's eyes. Creating the guise that we have a young team ripe with talent and that we don't really need Dwight.

    All about leverage.

No idea why people seem to think that drafting a star is so much better than trading for one. 8 years ago, we traded a star who we drafted and watched become part of the team for a disgruntled star from the Magic. Were we worse off for it?

Sure, it sucks to lose Scola. But there'll be good players after him, and they'll become fan favorites. Motiejunas was incredibly anticipated and will clearly become a fan favorite, and he almost certainly will not be traded. Parsons I think is also unlikely to be traded.

You play to win the game. You don't just play to play, after all.;)

All assets. They aren't your family. Sheesh. It's business. Only business. Don't like it then become a Knicks fan or Okc fan. I'm on board with my rockets. And personally love morey sticking it to other gms. We have never been below 500 since Morey took the reigns.

David Aldridge was just on NBA TV:

Nothing imminent but it could change any minute. Rockets are saying they've cleared as much room as they can and are basically telling Orlando that they have their offer out there ORL should go see if they can beat it. If not they will come back and deal with HOU. Aldridge says the ROX have "exactly" what ORL wants.

Will Dwight be healthy enough to play this year? Any gauge on how ready he is?

-Coming off back injury and it is serious stuff. Might take a couple of months for him to come back. Have no answers right now on where he is right now. Won't know anything until training camp where he tries to pick up pace a little bit.
