So we overpay a guard who started 25 games last year and you guys are celebrating

 

8M a year 3 years for Linsanity. What part of that is overpaid? The mere fact that he could help Howard stay is almost worth 8M a year, not to mention the $$$ he's gonna bring his boss and his actual skill as a player.

So you let Dragic walk & trade Lowry all for a guard who only started 25 games year? And coming off injury? At 8M a year? That's disgusting. You praise Morey for not over paying guy and that's EXACTLY what he did w/ Jeremy Lin and backup center Asik

 

This is also the guy who dropped 30+ pts on several teams and started Linsanity.

Overpaying can depend on the situation, its depends on the market available, the resource you paid to get him and the opportunity cost to get said player. 8M a year for 3 years isn't a cap killer, we just used the amnesty clause on Scola and cleared 9M for the next 3 years. Simple math, even in the event Lin turns out to be trash we still come out ahead, because we clear 1M capspace net and open playing time for our 8 PFs. Why would Alexander be willing to pay Scola 27M if he's not gonna play? Well maybe he thinks Linsanity can help pay for that out of pocket cost he's gonna incur.

Secondly, Lowry is already disgruntled so he is useless to us anyway. We got a guaranteed lottery pick for his disgruntled ass AND cleared 6M, and that's only possible because we had a chance to get Lin. Again simple math, if you subtracted Lin's salary for Lowry salary its like you paid 6M total (2M for next 3 years) for a lottery pick. That's a ****ing steal. And that's with Lin being a trash player. If he ends up sparking Linsanity again then you just got value on top of value.

What else does Lin give you besides those above?
*Increases chance DH resigns if we trade for him (due to China and Yao Ming $$$)
*Linsanity-earns his boss a ton of dough (not that relevant for Bball but significant brownie points for DM)
*Brings spotlight to Houston (and just in time for All star game)
*Who knows, Lin might actually be worth the contract. Dmorey and his FO are one of the best pg evaluators int he league. How many guys have they picked that turned out to be good alue considering what we paid for them? Dragic, Lowry, Brooks, Machado, Lin etc.

^All of those are possible for a mere 8M. Dude Morey's playing 3D chess and you're running around playing checkers.

 

He had a great run for 25 games. But he also turned the ball at a extremley high rate. IMO, The question is was he a better option than Lowry or Dragic? I say no. My guess is he was chosen more for non basketball issues, like marketing. This move will hurt us in the longrun, TRUST ME.

Thats the difference between our positions. You're referring to cap space, and I'm talking from a pure basketball perspective. Lin hasnt proven he's an elite PG for 82 games. He hasn't proven he can produce for 82 games or stay healthy. Yet Morey has put his faith in him. If he doesnt produce MOREY should be held accountable. We're trying to rebuild a team and if the GM is throwing out contracts to players after 25 games then I feel that's very premature. The move was made out of desperatation IMO

My question is why is it EVERY guard leaves here disgruntled? Secondly, Lowry's value is worth more than a 12-14 draft pick. He's one of our best players and all we get is peanuts for him. Again, basketball wise we dropped the ball. Lin is too turnover prone and Lowry's a overall better player. Cap space doesnt matter if you dont have the personel to make basketball decisions.

This is my main gripe on here. If Morey's been playing chess the last 5 years, how come we're the least talented team in the league? Why did he let a HOF caliber coach walk for "figure head" in Mchale? You cant make the case Morey's somehow smarter than the rest of the GM's if the other GM's are constantly making they're teams better than ours (ex: Portland). The only people who praise Morey like this are the fans on here. Give me 5 GREAT moves he's done thus far?

Ugh. Its very obvious to anyone paying attention they had a set amount of cap space to spend on a PG without endangering the D12 trade. Offered it to Dragic, he passed, offered it to Lin, he took it.

Its a very calculated move that was made out of restraint, rather than overpaying Dragic and blowing the D12 trade.

Every? Brooks and Lowry is two? One was mad he got injured and lost his starting job, the other because he didn't get an extension. Rafer and Dragic were not disgruntled when they left. Lowry's value is exactly what we got for him. Might want to look up what the trade actually was before saying we are going to get the 12-14 pick.

Sigh. The only thing that matters is getting that #1. NOTHING ELSE MATTERS.

I wanted to retain Lin rather than the nameless scrub we kept. However, I would rather have overpaid Dragic.

A lottery pick not in the top 10 for Lowry isnt equal value without getting another starter in return. That pick will be 11-14 pick, peanuts..

If this is the logic then Morey needs to be fired. You're creating cap space for a trade that isnt going to happen. Even if it does, he's NOT RESIGNING. So you'll be back in the same position or potentially worse with D12.

It's "obvious" that fans like you havent grasped the bigger picture and choose to put blind faith into a GM who hasnt done anything special. When the season starts and our team still looks the same I'm sure you'll be making the same excuses

So you refuse to acknowledge that Morey's burned bridges with his guys here? What you fail to realize is Brooks, Lowry, JVG and RA etc..Are all known as good guys w/ good repuations around the league. Soon as they come here they become disgruntled? STOP IT. Players/Coaches dont want to come here because of the reputation this organization has created around the league of low balling it's players and treating them like assets.

You're perspective is from Morey's, so I expect you to say this. But if you look at my main points:

-Morey is NOT the genius clutchfans has declared him

-We've been the least talented team in the NBA, yet you guys seem to think our GM is smarter than the other ones

-Jeremy Lin is NOT worth that contract. By midseason, you'll be backtracking EVERY statement you made.

-Dwight Howard is NOT going to accelerate the rebuilding process. It's only making it worse and you guys will shift blame off Morey somehow.

-Offering a back up center a offer sheet smells desperation. By midseason, you'll be backtracking on that too


The main difference between me & most of this board is the timetable our rebuilding process will take. YOU GUYS feel we're going in the right direction.
I'M SAYING we're no closer than 5 years from successfully rebuilding.

 

this year has been my favorite offseason watching the complexity unfold.
