Basically, when I read the ESPN (4 letter network) article last night I was freaking out like everyone on this BBS. But as I thought about it more, I realized that the ESPN article was mostly BS. They made it seem like it was a final definitive deal but added the words “sources say” in the sentences so that they could moon walk out of their statements.

Fact is, that article did not give us any more information than what we already knew, which was, the Rockets wanted to trade for Dwight and would have to take some combination of their 4 bad contracts. The Rockets also had to give Orlando some combination of expiring contacts, young players, and picks. Heck, we knew all this January this year!

So why did ESPN write the article this way? So that when the trade does happen, the Sports Center host will say, “And on with us is our very own NBA expert Marc Stein (or Chad Ford), who broke the story late Thursday night. Mark (Chad) please tell us what made this trade finally happen?” That’s the only reason why!!! So, everyone in the US will say, “WOW, I NEED TO GO TO ESPN.COM MORE! THEY BREAK STORIES AND HAVE INSIDERS!” When in actuality, all they did was throw spaghetti on the wall to see what (combination of players in the trade) sticks. We BBS-ers, we have enough intelligent posters here, that write great, insightful information, that we all should have taken a step back after reading and smelled something fishy before we reacted. We have the best fan site with so much information given to us that other fans of other teams don’t have, let’s take advantage of our resource by asking the right questions and challenging stupid articles like these from ESPN…

Step away from your computer. There was a six minute gap between your question and response. Chill.

Good article. The part I really liked.

Going back and forth. I guess I am for the trade again. Sheesh feeling whipsawed

    ******
The Rockets for now are going the trade route, banking on their ability to persuade Howard (or Bynum, or whomever) to sign on for the long haul because of Kevin McHale’s coaching, the franchise’s heady environment, Morey’s ability to tweak the roster quickly to Howard’s liking and, most important, the extra year and money only an incumbent team can offer its own free agents. Variations of all those factors helped the Nets re-sign point guard Deron Williams. ...

By taking all of these Orlando players in exchange for promising young talent, the Rockets would essentially become a Western Conference version of the team that Howard has already deemed not good enough for him. The Rockets have obviously thought about that and determined that the whole thing is worth the risk. Maybe they’re crazy. Maybe they’re not.

For one, Howard likes some of these guys. The Magic acquired Davis in part because Howard requested him specifically, and the star center also has a good relationship with Richardson. Turkoglu’s and Duhon’s deals expire after the 2013-14 season, and both are only 50 percent guaranteed for that season. If ownership is willing to spend, the Rockets could buy out both players and gain immediate cap flexibility — either for a lopsided in-season trade involving another high-priced player, or a huge chunk of cap room for use next summer. (Depending on how many of the Rockets’ young players depart in this theoretical deal/buyout scenario, Houston could have somewhere between $11 million in cap space and near max-level room).

LOL. Since when is this a valid argument for anything? If you want to defend him that's fine, but, calling me a "hater" is comical.

No, I think it has been said that the amnesty of Scola would allow the Rockets enough space even if we get Asik.

I don't know for sure, but it was likely a surgery to help relieve pain he was having in his back. As long as he rehabs properly, he might even be able to be better as he wouldn't be playing with pain any longer. If it wasn't to fuse his vertebrae back together, it's not a major surgery.

Knicks and Bulls have 3 days to match. Lin signed the offer sheet today, so Knicks have 3 days. When the Knicks decline or match the offer, the Rockets can move onto Asik. Bulls will then have 3 days to match.

I guarantee you Howards back will go out the second he steps off the plane in Houston.

The revised contract to Lin is interesting. Obviously the Knicks are still likely to match, but there's a chance they don't with $14.9m third year. If Morey were desperate for every morsel of cap room in a Howard deal, I don't know that he does that. That tells me the Orlando deal won't be quite as big (in terms of contracts returning to Houston) as many had speculated.

So they can't sign both at the same time? Does it have to be one after the next?

He is in the final year of his contract. If he has an injury or fakes one, it will effect the amount of money he can get next year.

lol...wut? And I get negative rep and reprimanded for telling someone simply "shut up"

Dude is on tilt. But regardless, I don't expect someone to be able to be able to poster insider speculation and never be wrong. What goes on in the front office of an organization frequently falls through. If we all knew the what ifs, close calls and possibilities as they were happening....well....some people on here would probably be jobless from spending so much time on the BBS.

Not sure I get how posting cryptically is any different than just outright saying what is happening. As if cryptic messaging is only decipherable by the board and not any possible FO people with the Rockets. But I digress, it's not my information so I guess it can be presented in whatever playful way an individual wants to, even if it is annoying.

So fire away with extremely vague references, one way or another, people seem to enjoy them. It's still better than 95% of the rest of the **** people throw up on here (myself included).

If I understand correctly, yes, one after another(according to Feigen).

To sign both at the same time, they would have to let go of players and renounce Courtney Lee's bird rights today.

No reason to do that when you can just sign one after the other.

All i know is that Howard himself said his back was worse than what people were saying. It's always something with this guy when its time to get traded.
