Sorry guys, been at work and haven't had much of chance in keep up to date with the FA hoopla today. Anyone answer whether we officially signed Asik for Chicago to match yet? Or are they still waiting for us?

Believe they're still waiting on us but don't quote me on that.

Any chance Chicago and Morey are working out a deal so that Houston will get that Bobcats pick if they sign Asik to a level contract with no jump at the end? Asik won't care either way.

    Replying to my own post...

How about a SnT Lee for Korver and Bobcat #1.

From what I read Chicago actually thinks the jump at the end is good because they'll be able to stay under the luxury tax for the next two years and dump Boozer or try to trade Asik's expiring contract when the jump coms.

I'm not sure that is an ideal scenario for Chicago. Dumping boozer still requires paying his salary (so + $17 M or whatever it is in that year) which hurts their internal cap (because the Owner has been known to be relatively stingy...not a free spender) and if you are banking on trading Asik after his 2nd year, that is still a big pill to swallow for a potential back-up center at $15M, even if it is an expiring. The only way they could unload him is in a trade for a Max player/superstar and Asik alone won't get that done...so its way more complicated than that I believe.

I am thinking a lot of teams will be having luxury tax problems. With minimum spending requirements going up, the salary dump is going to have to take place before the third year. Most likely the Bulls will try to trade him after second season and before the third season officially begins. Teams will be required to spend 90% of salary cap so don't expect a team to have a 15 million dollar cap space slot available at deadline. Not saying they can't do it, but they may have to trade something valuable with him.

There is a short window after playoffs before the third season officially will begin. They will have a chance to trade him at the 5 million dollar level, but will have to sweeten deal since he is going to be paid more than he's worth. If they trade him for superstar, they will still have a huge tax to pay.

I doubt this is true as they will be paying Taj Gibson a substantially higher salary. Boozer and Rose also will be making more money as well. Deng will be off the books, but they will have had to resign him or find a replacement by then.

We should pull the offer sheet, let him sign there Q.O. and enter unrestricted free agency next summer. Same thing with Lin.

This. The Bulls are in a big market but Reinsdorf has been very averse to the luxury tax.

What's funny is now the ROX plans might get blown up if the Bulls don't match.

Bulls clearing more room. I'd say it's 80% chance they match.
