Cat, I think the reason for the initial delay was the trades being cleared. I think now it's just the amnesty of Scola. My opinion is that they want to hold onto Courtney Lee's bird rights. I suspect that they anticipate the Dwight trade getting done and want to bring Lee back to the team to play with him. If they just did the offer sheets they'd have to give up Lee's rights.

My feeling is that they want to get a deal agreed to in principal before they dump Scola for nothing so they can't submit the offer sheets until they know whether they are dumping Scola or Lee.

Lin's sheet is supposed to be signed today, if I'm not mistaken.

Not exactly. He can't be signed to a full max and then traded. If he gets the true max he has to stay with the team that signs him to it. If we do a sign and trade he gets a reduced max that doesn't include the 5th year.

    Nope.

S&Ts now can be no larger than the deal the FA could get signing a new contract with an outside team. 4 years, smaller raises.

To sign and trade a player at the true max (5 yrs), you would have to wait 6 months before making the trade.

That's why signing Brook Lopez took the Nets completely out of the running.

Duwight's scared of going to teams with a history of having great big men. LA had Wilt and Bynum so he don't wanna go there. Houston had Yao and Deke so he dont wanna come here. New Jersey had no one, so he wants to go there...

I think Brook Lopez is regarded as a top center in the NBA which is why the Nets just paid all that money to him. I do think Morey would do the same. Centers are hard to find these days. I think we'll be left with that or Howard walks. Where does he go if he walks? Dallas probably. If Morey has the chance of signing and trading him for Brook Lopez vs. have him walk for nothing, I think he does the sign and trade.

Got it guys. My bad. I was under the impression that it was after the 11th. Of course they haven't signed which completely changes it all.

    Thanks for clearing it up.

That's the most logical explanation I've heard yet - hope that's accurate. I was under the impression we had room for both offer sheets, even with Scola under contract and Lee's hold.

Wow, I'd like to have howard but omg that is way too much:

Sources say that the Rockets would have to send Kevin Martin, Patrick Patterson, Marcus Morris and Chandler Parsons to the Magic from their current roster to make the salary-cap math work, as well the draft rights to Jeremy Lamb, Royce White and Terrence Jones, all selected in last month's first round.

Pull out now Morey. All for DH to leave us busted with no depth, no nothing when DH rental is over.

With amnesty of Scola, I don't know why they wouldn't go ahead and make both offer sheets today.

There were previous reports that it would be signed Wednesday. At this point, I wouldn't believe any of them until you actually see news that it's signed.

The Scola amnesty hasn't been done, either.
