Obviously you didn't see the playoffs.

DH is the ONLY other player in the league who has the capability to dominate on both ends on a nightly basis outside of Lebron.

Jeremy Lamb picked at 12. Players picked at 12 since 2000: Alec Burks, Xavier Henry, Gerald Henderson, Jason Thompson, Thaddeus Young, Hilton Armstrong, Yaroslav Korolev, Robert Swift, Nick Collison, Melvin Ely, Vladamir Radmanovic, Etan Thomas.
So more often than not, the player picked at 12 does not turn out to be a solid NBA player. Alec Burks, Gerald Henderson, Jason Thompson, Thaddeus Young, and Valdamir Radmanovic are all nice NBA players but none are not worth giving up for Dwight Howard.

Royce White picked at 16. Players picked at 16 since 2000: Nikola Vucevic, Luke Babbit, James Johnson, Marreese Speights, Nick Young, Rodney Carney, Joey Graham, Kirk Snyder, Troy Bell, Jiri Welsch, Kirk Haston, Hedo Turkoglu.
Again, some good players but most of the time at 16 you're not getting a great NBA player. A solid role player occasionally but no all-stars.

Terrence Jones picked at 18. Players picked at 18 since 2000: Chris Singleton, Eric Bledsoe, Ty Lawson, Javale McGee, Marco Belinelli, Oleksiy Pecherov, Gerald Green, JR Smith, David West, Curtis Borchardt, Jason Collins, Quentin Richardson.
I think the most talented players have actually been picked here out of the three ironically enough..

so think about this: would you be willing to give up Gerald Henderson, Joey Graham, and Chris Singleton for Dwight Howard?

Yeah, whoever posted the magicsportsnetwork comment was trolling. Confirmed by other magic fans. No such account exists. Oh well. More waiting

Is he really a top 3 player on both sides of the court though?

I mean offensively speaking, you can't go to him in close games because his a liability at the free throw line. Not to mention if you put a big mobile body on him and push him out of the paint, it really limits his effectiveness (I saw this when he went up against Bynum, Cousins and Perkins- not to mention Yao, when he still played).

Yes I think, he's a one of the top player's defensively without a doubt, but offensively speaking we might be looking at a different story.

Yea same. PER is pretty stupid because it just gives you a number based on how much percentage you do for your team. So if you do everything like Love does on a crappy team...then it gets pushed up. Also it is purely statistical...leaving out any positioning effects, personnel switches, and ball movement.

Morey drafted these guys. They're legit.

Okay, so none of them are future HOFs, but it would be nice to use them as part of a package to bring a 2nd star to H-Town.

I think Lamb and White do have solid NBA futures but I don't expect either of them to be close to Dwights level

Whats taking so long for the trade to happen if its "done"? Does this really have to do with lin and asik? when will we offer there contracts, when will they be matched? Do we really haft to wait a whole week until there matched till we can make a trade?...

A Howard deal can be put together in all manor of ways, but I am HOPING that the Rockets can get a deal done AND find a way to keep Parsons and White. They can have Martin+Patterson+Morris, Lamb+Jones and Picks (Toronto/Dallas etc). And if the Rockets had to give up Parsons and/or White, then I would say the Rockets have to take back less garbage contracts.

Patterson+Morris+Lamb+Jones is FOUR first round picks. Plus the 2 upcoming. Martin is an expiring contract for a quality player. AND the Rockets would be taking the burden of some garbage contracts. To me, that's enough without going into Parsons & White.

BTW, It's too bad the Rockets couldn't get ANY assets in return for Scola. But, he hasn't been amnestied yet, so I guess there is hope some team would be interested even if for a 2nd round pick.

We have to wait at most 3 days for both so could be 6 days. I think we first give lin a contract, wait for match. Then give asik contract, wait for match. Then trade for Howard.

so we basically trade the whole entire roster for one guy. Is he going to play by himself on the court?

I think we both give Lin and Asik their contract at the same time, wait for match then trade for Howard. That will save 3 whole days of waiting...

While I agree that the list is unimpressive, its also not an apples to apples comparison. What would be more fair is to look at who was picked 10-20 (and below) in those years because that is really the range we are talking about since some better players were picked below those you mentioned (and could've been taken earlier) and others drop up and down because of "basketball reasons" "off court problems" or for being a Mangina.

Many scouts get their picks wrong and allow for good players to fall to lower slots or out of the first round all together. So you can't exactly compare retroactively the pick slot with who was chosen without looking at all the other players that were available and passed up for whatever reason.

If a team is confident in their scouting department, they aren't thinking...oh gee the 12th pick is worth Hilton Armstrong, the 16th Jiri Welsh, and the 18th Jason COllins. They are thinking more best case scenarios

    So

Why do we have to offer them a contract if we know they're being matched? Why are we going after them at all???
