Your analysis certainly applies to some posters, but there are valid non butt-hurt reasons to be against the trade.

For instance, isn't it possible just to think Dwight really isn't the best piece to build around? A tempermental star, who seems likely to bolt, surrounded by the same cast who he had become despondent with in Orlando?

Or isn't it valid to think we are giving up too much talent in the trade?

That's not to say that some people are too attached to players (I'll admit, losing Scola hurts, and you shouldn't discount the emotional attachment that fans build up with players). It's just a silly idea that we are going to give up essentially 5 first rounders plus Chandler when there really isn't that much talent coming back outside of Dwight and Davis. It simply doesn't seem like a balanced trade.

And I guess this post is more in response to your prievious post, not really this one that I lazily quoted.

I agree that it doesn't make a lot of sense for him to sit out but I think we are dealing with a bit of an idiot. Only a dummy would have opted in like he did last year. I really have no faith in Dwight Howard to make a good decision for himself or his current team. I expect the unexpected and illogical when it comes to that guy.

Im sure if dwight does walk from our max offer by the end of the season, or if he doesn't give it 100% during the games, he will probably be the least liked player in the nba. From lebron to dwight... Id honestly rather wait a year and give bynum a max offer, and then this season see how well all our rookies and new guys play. Then in a year, we will know who are the assets to trade and not to trade

I mean is nobody seeing the good chance that Dwight re-signs based on the promise we get him another star?

Let's see, walk and play the FA market. Or, re-sign, make 27 million more in Houston then anywhere else, and possibly play with the best PG in the league next year, or one of his good friends Josh Smith.

Seems like once he's in Houston, there is about an 80% chance he will re-sign.

I didn't quote your entire post, but I wanted to answer you. Yes.

I have no problem with people being against this trade. This is a "nuts on the dresser" type of move. It comes with heavy risk. I don't think the worst case scenario is franchise crippling, but it will definitely be a tough pill to swallow.

Earlier reports were suggesting the Rockets were offering 3 of the following-

Patterson, Motiejunas, Lamb, White, Jones, Parsons.

Obviously Motiejunas can no longer be traded right now, so it would most likely involve at least 2 of these 3.

If I had to guess, Patterson and White would probably still remain with the Rockets given Patterson will be the most expensive player sooner, and White has off the court red-flags.

The article is quite bogus...obviously the Rockets have room to absorb the contracts of the entire Magic Roster they will ...but the Rockets arent gonna do that..they will have a competitive roster...may slightly overpay...but if there is any indication of what Morey thinks...he really thinks he will be able to offer the best package to ORL...and no one else can get there...
He will not part with all the Rookies...especially if Patterson and Parsons are also included...

Expecting White, DMo, Parsons to stay for sure...

That's why I think Morey is trying to get Orlando to take players like Lamb, Jones, White, and Morris instead of picks

Don't give them our pick unprotected. We still lose the Mavs and the Raptors pick regardless though.

The Magic could only get one of our picks no matter what the deal is and it could not be the one the year after Dwight left. (If he leaves)

Watching ESPN now. Their story now states "What Rockets CAN offer for Dwight Howard".

Props to the guys that mentioned ESPN probably screwed the pooch and just mentioned what we COULD offer as an actual offer. If they were still sticking to that as the actual offer than I don't think they would mention it as a possible offer less than 24 hours later.

Let's step back from the ledge.

I will not be happy with give the farm away for a guy for one year and basically have the same Orlando team here in Houston. Just crap.

    Heh, that would be OremLK.

Saw him in almost every early page trying to get people to understand what the article really said. Major props to that guy, he was doing work.

    Marc Stein:

-No team in the running that can offer all those things Houston is offering. It gives the Magic a chance to completely start over. Not a team in the running that can offer a better pick than the Houston pick(Toronto pick). Unless someone shows up and matches those things Houston can offer, Houston is in the lead.

-They believe they can[change Dwight's mind]. No one else does. They're convinced if they get Dwight to Houston, get him in the program, get Hakeem in his ear, they think they can lobby him and also turn around with future cap space and get him help. They made it known that no one on their roster is safe and they will trade anyone and everything.

-(Likelihood on scale of 1-10): A 6 only because this is the longest saga in memory and it could drag on longer. Houston is quietly confident but can't proceed until offer sheets play out. Lin will sign today, Knicks can wait 3 days and then the same process with Asik. Until that happens, they won't know how much cap space they'll have. Perhaps next week the Rockets will have inched closer to getting this done.

-(If not this deal, who else?): Hawks are lurking. Another team with cap space. Collection of picks doesnt match Houston's but ATL another team, if willing to put Horford and Teague together could get Orlando's attention and if they were to trade for him, like Houston, would hope he would stay.

Ben and Skin are unabashed homers. I talked to Skin last year before the Rox/Mavs game, and he was absolutely sure that the Mavs were going to get DWill. I think pretty much everyone in Dallas and the Dallas media think Cuban and Nellie screwed the pooch by not keeping the old guys together for another run. Now their motto is "keep the powder dry" to make a run at D12 and CP3 next year.

Stein is the ultimate NBA insider here in the metroplex - but he's also prone to be a little homer sometimes. I would trust him 100% more than Ben and Skin, even though Skin does work with the Mavs as their sideline/in-game reporter.
