I do not think Morey will give up too much. The Morey history suggests that he always wants to gain something in any trade based on his calculation.

There is a concept known as multi-tasking. Learn about it now at a young age and your lovers will be thankful later.

Before I go on, let me start by saying I don't think that the deal ESPN has reported is the real proposal..
Okay so I just don't get it. People on this site are so bipolar. One day y'all are pissed Morey is building a mediocre team and won't get a superstar. The next day you're pissed he's finally close to getting a top 5 NBA player! And y'all complain that we'll just be the Orlando Magic in the western conference. Don't y'all think Morey has thought about this?! He's a frickin professional GM! He went to MIT. He thinks all of these things through. He wants to keep his job and see this team become a NBA champion. He isn't a dumbass that we hired off the corner in downtown Houston. Have some faith in the guy. And if we do get Dwight and he doesn't sign back, then we rebuild FINALLY. Morey is just as tired as we are of being stuck in basketball mediocrity. We have to go big or go home. So stay patient. Keep the faith. Sit back. Relax. And let Morey do his thing.

I probably would still lean on the side of calling Dwights bluff unless things were really that bad. The only way I deal with Brooklyn is for a package that includes something similar to what Orlando was going to get for Dwight last week that will allow Morey to shed some of the bad salary away from the Rockets at the trade deadline.

The nice thing is there would be at least two suitors that would be able to bid each other for Dwight. IF, Dwight went T-Mac on the Rockets I still think they could get something back for Dwight at the deadline. Or Morey could still call his bluff and really see what he's made of. If thats the case, Dallas is the only realistic place he could go.

I believe him and Parsons are on the roster but not necessarily getting playing time

If Dwight can play, I really doubt he will refuse to. Now if he is seriously injured, that's another story.

This is a fair point. The shape the league is taking on is not good for any mid- to small-market team. Competitive balance seems like a distant, discarded goal. And Stern and the league office seem fine with it, even happy. Just so long as there are great teams in NY, LA, Boston and Miami -- the NBA office in New York is content. They get to eat well. Live well. Have nice lives, and some fabulous local basketball to watch. TV is happy. ESPN is happy. Everyone is happy.

Except, of course -- Houston, Milwaukee, Detroit, Portland, Cleveland, Atlanta, Charlotte, Sacramento, Orlando, Minnesota, Utah, Toronto, Washington, Memphis, Denver, Phoenix and Golden State. One would think these teams could band together and throw their collective weight around (even oust Stern and force some change). But it never seems to happen.

Well, I think that would have been too early to give up on the biggest mismatch on the court, and I don't fault Les for not being ready to give up on Yao at that point, if you were, well that's your prerogative I suppose but I wouldn't have agreed. In retrospect, you can say you were right for feeling Yao would never be back to form long term, but I think a majority of teams would have done the same if they were in our situation.

as far the money issue, Carl Herrera did a great job going thru some theoretical numbers here http://bbs.clutchfans.net/showthread.php?t=223177

Like I said, I'd only trade him if it he's refusing to play and basically sitting out the season. But there is no way I trade him to Brooklyn. The rumored deal they were sending to Orlando was garbage. It did nothing for the Magic. That's why the deal didn't happen and was never going to happen.

What have Jeremy Lamb, Royce White, or Terrence Jones proven at the NBA level? Absolutely nothing. Sure they have potential. Will they ever be top 5 NBA players like Dwight Howard. Probably not. Marcus Morris? Nothing proven either. Patrick Patterson? Somewhat reliable back up PF. Kevin Martin? Expiring contract we've been looking to get rid of anyways. Chandler Parsons? Okay, this one would hurt cause he has potential to be a consistent starter. But if One good proven player is what's holding you back from liking a trade for top 5 NBA player, you have some problems...

I do fear we will lose Parsons in the deal.

Sadly because he's the only "proven" talent Orlando is really getting.

Mark Kreidler: Great info from @David Aldridge, who says he'll believe the Rockets are signing D Howard when he sees them officially amnesty Scola. #RiseGuys 4 minutes ago

For what it's worth (not much, probably) I was ready to give up on Yao then too...primarly because of the comments Dr. First on sports radio right after he went down in that Lakers series. I was convinced he'd never really play again listening to him talk about the injury and the history of big men in the league...Dr. First was right then. I absolutely think they held on way too long, and I think that off the court factors were the reason why.

Whether that meant taking or what it meant, I didn't care...I just didn't want us to waste any more time make believing with regard to Yao.

But I'm excited about the potential of grabbing the kind of player I believe you have to have if you want to be in the discussion for a ring.

Does anyone else think there is a better chance of Dwight reconsidering and choosing to stay in Orlando if he is faced with the alternative of going to Houston?

From everything I have heard, I would not be surprised if Dwight stays in Orlando if they go to him and say this is your last chance, we have been offered a deal we can't refuse from the Rockets, it's do or die time, and he says screw it I'll stay here.

At the time it was considered career threatening if I recall correctly. He tried to come back and 8 games over it was over. But I thought giving him a year off and tanking was a better approach. Unfortunately, we got Kevin Martin (after knowing Yao was permanently done) and tried to rebuild through trade. It doesn't work.

If it happens, it happens. Nothing we can do about it.

But I don't think it'll happen. Pretty much every source has made it clear that the bridge has been burned between Dwight and the Magic.
