Fixed. Dwight Howard IS a franchise player. The thinking that "oh, let's just suck, we'll get a surefire superstar in next year's draft" is a flawed logic. It's thinking like that that gets you on the lottery train, and who knows when you'll be able to get off. Look at the Clippers who just recently have been able to get off, or the Charlotte Bobcats - who knows how long they'll take to get off. Dwight is here and is a superstar. We don't have to worry about him developing, just putting good role players around him, and when it comes to finding good role players In Morey I Trust.

The odds of us getting a franchise player in next years draft are a lot better than you understanding the average amount of time for teams tanking to get a Franchise type player is almost 10 years.

This is actually a great point. Dwight's problems with the Magic have been largely with the organization as a whole including the current team president. He allegedly likes many of his teammates.

    Another fallacy of the unknown.

The Rockets fan will hope in his heart of hearts that Jeremy Lamb is Ray Allen, Royce White is Magic Johnson and Terrance Jones is... I don't know, Rick Mahorn.

However, this is extremely unlikely even if this appeared to be a deep draft. Teams rarely land franchise players in the 10-20 range of the NBA draft.

Now I myself even think Lamb and White could be good players, but we simply don't know and to overvalue unknown commodities is a fatal mistake.

If we get Dwight we have a leg up on Dallas. 1. They still have deadweight contracts in Marion and Vince. 2. if they want to do the Chris Paul package they have to get rid of Darren Collison who himself has three years left. 3. We can pay Dwight a LOT more than Dallas can, and unlike the Lebron situation, max deals are no longer able to be signed and traded.

That last reason far outweighs the other two imo.

I honestly don't buy it, if we are offering all of that then what the hell is Orlando waiting for?! If they are wanting to rebuild it's beyond perfect.

Right now this team isn't going to win 25 games. That my friend is a top 3 pick for a couple of years to come. Maybe 3 or 4.

I'd rather do that than get a one-year rental and a bunch of bad contracts.

Lol, if that trade happens, we would have become the Orlando Magic of the West.

maybe he doesn't walk away from the money, maybe he stays and plays here because this is where he can make the most money. i suppose i'm just old fashioned and prefer rooting for people that want to be here, and rewarding them - not paying people in hopes that they'll want to be here.

i guess some people really do only care about winning at all costs, and not how meaningful the wins are. sports to me are not 'just business' - it is a significant investment of time and emotion and the payoff for wins is far greater when it comes from players you genuinely care for (hakeem, francis-in spite of all his flaws, yao) than a bunch of hired guns who are just chasing rings (malone/payton when they joined the lakers, lebron/bosh when they joined the heat) or money (dwight). it's why OKC is such an easy team to root for.

cutting scola i understand is collateral damage for our rebuilding efforts, but if morey's endgame this offseason is cutting a guy who loved being a rocket and adding a guy who wants nothing to do with houston, that is a very difficult pill to swallow. maybe you will enjoy the season as if it were business as usual and cheering for him will come naturally to you because winning cures all ills, but i'll be watching and wondering how we let a team that once had the 'heart of a champion' get replaced by a team with no heart at all, just eyes flashing with dollar signs.

Basically we are offering to swap positions. When Orlando returns to a contending status while we sit going no where, Morey is going to look really bad.

I think if he's going to leave, Morey will have figured that out by the trading deadline and then will be able to trade him to Brooklyn or the Lakers before he lets him walk to Dallas. Those aforementioned trade scenarios would help Houston get back some assets, and also still give Dwight his bird rights.

If Morey decides to call his bluff AGAIN, and lets him play the year out then yes Dallas is a real threat, but he's still going to be leaving money on the table to sign outright as a free agent.

And the Magic become the Rockets of the East... I see why they don't want to make the trade.

And what are the chances that that top 3 pick gets you a player of Howard's caliber?

Wishful thinking of Orlando fans. The most likely thing that will get Dwight into an epiphany is when he faces losing a Lot of money.

I don't think is a chance in hell that Morey will trade Dwight at the deadline. If even suggests that it is possible to trade him to Brooklyn at the deadline he blows up any chance he has to keep him.

Now, with that said, if Morey DOES trade him at the deadline for a maxed out Lopez I will call for his firing.
