This is actually a good question. If Im the Orlando GM, Im stuck between a rock and a hard place.

On one hand he is smart enough to know that Dwight isn't going to leave for the MLE in Brooklyn, but he knows the damage it can do to his organization if they have another year of drama, and trade requests.

Also there is the risk that a team like LA renounces their rights to Bynum, trades Gasol for cap space, and signs Howard in free agency. The same thing could happen to Houston of course, but Houston obviously is willing to take that risk. Right now, Dallas poses the biggest threat of signing him in free agency given their cap space situation.

One way or another, the owner of the Magic is done with Dwight Howard and the GM is now given the ability to hit the reset button, and build the team over from scratch. Obviously thats a route they are choosing to go. However, Orlando has every right to call Dwights bluff and not allow him to try and force a trade when he has no right to do so anyways. Like alot of things in the world, its the power of perception, and thats what this is about more than anything. How Orlando wants their franchise to be percieved.

I'm more distraught that we are allready in rebuild mode with some guys with potential and some good draft picks and we are blowing that up for a guy coming off back surgery that has been an embarrasment to the league and will be hard to root for his diva arse. I think it will set our rebuild back a couple more years.

The Heat did not know they would get LeBron and Bosh... indeed LeBron tried to convice Bosh to go to Cleveland with him.

No, you're never going to get a direct quote from Howard, but that's only because he's a coward and afraid to speak for himself. Just like you'll never find a quote from him that he wanted Stan Van Gundy fired - I guess you don't believe Howard had anything to do with that either? It's apparent Dwight doesn't want to be in Houston - this 'he never said it so it isn't true' refrain is comical.

Man, it's hard to root for virtually anyone who is first or second team All NBA who isn't named Kevin Durant. They all come off as divas or problem children. Almost any star we acquire is gonna come with the diva tag.

David Aldridge tweeted a week or so ago that sources with "knowledge of Dwights thinking" told him that Dwight would not sign long term with Houston.

This is almost exactly what was said. This was when Brooklyn was very much in the game, and Houston jumped the bid. It was a ploy, and a negotiation strategy that most star players take to force their way to a certain team in trade. The tactic was most likely from his management team and agent, and not directly from Dwight. However, Im sure they communicated with Dwight directly that this is the reason why we will say this or that. This was a well calculated business negotiation tactic, not an emotional response.

Melo did this before as well, and it worked for him. Didn't work for Howard.

Way too many butthurt cry babies in this thread.

You think Chandler Parsons and Jeremy Lamb were going to lead this team to glory, then you're seriously delusional.

I stand by Morey for this, and I agree with the moves he has made.

If this all blows up in his face, Morey gets canned, McHale is fired. We suck and we tank and the tanking crowd is happy and rebuild through sheer suckiness.

If we land our own Big 3 and dominate our division with Dallas fading fast and San Antonio on their last legs, then this will be viewed as the biggest turning point in Rockets history and the beginning of a renaissance.

Blowing up is good. Dooming us to years and years of mediocrity is not.

Those bad contracts will haunt us. The loss of picks will haunt us. And when DH leaves after yet another 9th seed and 14th draft pick, you all will be calling for blood.

ESPN Dallas is super confident that that is what the Rockets are giving up. They say Morey isn't a good talent evaluator and are confident Dwight will end up in Dallas. They say Mavs fans should pray that he ends up in Houston because Dwight has said himself he will play in Dallas. These guys are delusional. Can't wait until the trade goes down.

We can only give up one of our own picks for any foreseeable future. Worst case scenario is we make the playoffs, Dwight leaves and we have no pick this coming draft and again in 2015.

Which bad contracts? Hedo, Q Richardson, and Duhon all have only one more year after this one, and Jason Richardson and GlenDavis aren't exactly making giant moolah. Having those contracts would hurt if Dwight leaves, but it hardly would doom us to mediocrity.
