If a player dunks from the 3pt line, does it count as a 3 or 2?

I know that it's not possible for any current NBA player to do so, but eventually with current trends in advancing nutrition, athlete fitness, and human genetics I think in few generations, a player will eventually get to the point where they'll be able to dunk from the before the 3 pt with ease just like most do with the free throw line today. When we do get to that point, if a player leaps from before the 3 pt line, and dunks it, will it technically count as a 3 pointer or 2 pointer?

I think if it ever got to the point that a player could dunk from the 3 point line, especially in a game, they'd have to change the rules and set the 3 point line further and call it a 2. However, with the current ruling, I'd assume it to be worth 3 points.

If both feet are behind line, then no matter where he lands it's a 3.

I did it the other day at our college league game. I think the ref called it a 3.

If they leave the floor from behind the 3 pt line . .. it is a 3 pointer.
I remember Andrew Toney use to jump forward from the 3 pt line.
He could drift past the top of the key some times .. . but it was still a 3

3 pointer. I read the same question in a basketball trivia book when I was young.

Yeah I doubt that.....nothing against you I just don't believe you dunked from the 3 point line(even if college line is closer)

Lebron does it all the time, but they still call it a two, even if it's near half court. I guess they think it makes up for the 6 steps after he picks up his dribble.

    - Dunk is 2 points.
    - Layup is 3 points.

The reason for this is that on dunks the player touches the rim. And the rim is clearly in the 2 point area.

My sarcasm meter is broken. I suspect it should be going nuts right now, but who can say?

    LOL.

It's physically impossible to dunk from the three point line.

Have you seen long jumpers? They can jump farther than that.
