Looks like it could be Howard, Davis, Richardson, Duhon for ???????

I will guess: All of our future picks, Martin, Patterson, Jones

    Would this work?

That would be an absolute steal for us considering that we get to keep our 2014 pick which would be the year we suck the most if he leaves.

Then we get a high draft pick.

This is what most people in on this BBS were asking for. For us to go all in, either get a superstar or tank. You cannot tank with good veterants like Scola on your team. we are not tredding water anymore, no more 14th pick.

Now it is either a superstar, or a couple of high draft picks (toronto, our draft pick).

I'm delighted with what Morey is doing this summer (altough I loved scola and will really miss him in a rockets jersey).

Hey, I'm all for Howard or bust. Bust meaning tanking so hard it would make Patton get a hard on.

    Okay I'm going to clarify:

    SCENARIO 1:

If Rockets trade for Dwight straight up, it's going to look like this:

Rockets get: Dwight, Turkoglu, Richardson, Duhon
Rockets send: Kevin Martin, 5 Picks, maybe 3 Rookies

Magic get: Martin, 5 Picks, maybe 3 Rookies
Magic sends: Dwight, Turkoglu, Richardson, Duhon

Rockets will have about $41 million in salary next season from just the newly acquired Magic players, enough to sign a max contract player for $16 million next year.

    SCENARIO 2:

If Rockets trade for Bynum between Lakers and the Magic, it's going to look like this:

    Rockets get: Bynum, Turkoglu, Duhon
Rockets send: Kevin Martin, 4 Picks, maybe 2 Rookies

Magic get: Martin, 4 Picks, 2 Rookies, World Peace
Magic sends: Dwight, Turkoglu, Richardson, Duhon

    Lakers get: Dwight, Richardson
    Lakers send: Bynum, World Peace

Rockets will have about $31 million in salary for just the 3 newly acquired Magic players next season, enough to sign a max contract player for $16 million, and another good-tier player for $10 million next year (or $13 million if they split it).

    ^^^^^^^

That's what I was just wondering.

Going the Dwight route nets us possibly 3 bad contracts enough to get 1 max contract player next season.

Going the Bynum route nets us possibly only 1 or 2 bad contracts enough for 1 max contract player, and 1 more near max contract player, basically 2 great players. Not only that, but we likely save 1 of our rookies from being traded and/or save an extra draft pick.

Why would the Magic take a worse deal in your 3 team scenario? They would get less "assets" while also taking on a really bad contract.

True, but the same can be said as to why the Rockets would have to sell the whole farm to give Orlando everything they wish for and then some, when everyone even the Magic knows that only we hold the aces because we can give them the best offer out there.

Even, I'm upset about the departure of Luis, I do think this is a great gamble from Morey. The worst scenario is DH will walk after the contract end. This will cost the Toronto 1st round pick and 1 year of time to persuade DH to stay. It will also leave the Rockets some bad contracts as well. On the other hand, The best scenario is that DH will stay in Houston and is able to lure another superstar player, this will immediately make the Rockets back to a play-off contenders level, and in the year of 14-15 when will the bad contracts end, the Rockets will definitely become a champion collaborate if there are any serious injury or management failure. In my opinion, DH is a top talent who can't be easily obtained even with a very high first-round pick, and we are talking about pairing him with another superstar. I just don't think we can miss this opportunity while the entrance fee for the gamble are just some cash from the owners and 2 years of time...

Why would you quote this both ways? Do you always waste time like this? I worry about you sir. Are you OK?

O.K., hats off to the Morey followers. Your loyalty is admirable. Has anyone thought about the fact that Howard is coming off an unjury and could reinjure himself and limit the time we have to have him on the court? I'm all about putting all the chips in and taking the risks but if he is a one and done just how much will the organization be losing? Absorbing bad contracts, losing rebuilding quality draft picks and young players, for someone who has stated he does not want to be here short or long term. Morey must know something we don't or at least I hope because landing DH is one thing but keeping him and surrounding him with talent is gonna be the kicker. It's hard to see the players who have come and gone but if morey pulls this off then all the moves will not have been in vain but justified!

I think Morey excels at acquiring role players (Landry, Budinger, Parsons, etc.). Surrounding Dwight with talent won't be the issue for us. It's always been acquiring that superstar that we've had the problem with.

If Dwight reinjures himself, whose going to pay him max dollars? No one but us because we already have him. Why would Dallas or Atlanta (the only other teams with any cap space) make a serious move if he doesn't play well this season? Gambling on Dwight is a risk well worth taking, since he'll have to take a major pay cut to play elsewhere and there's not a clear cut cap clearing team out there. Remember before Miami built there team, it was clearly obvious the previous seasons what they were trying to do. Right now there's no one out there in the position to do what they did but us. So while many teams want to go the OKC route, we'll be just fine with the Miami route.

I agree, but a talent like Howard won't stick around with a bunch of role players IMO. It's gonna take 2nd tier players, commitment to winning, and some stability bc there has not been players sticking around here very long. Caution though, we already traded for a player with an injury from orlando.

if we get Howard and he leaves, we are screwed, no draft picks to replace him. And every year we suck the Magic will get our lottery picks lol

Their is a reason we are the only team willing to trade for Howard without the assurance he will sign with us

I say if nobody else jumps in and offers the Magic anything else, we should lowball them, and see if they bite

First off, the Rockets are not trading EVERY SINGLE PLAYER on their roster to Orlando, despite the ridiculous report by Marc Stein this morning.

Second off, I doubt the Rockets will be including any HOUSTON future first round picks in a Dwight Howard trade. Hell, they are actually PROHIBITED under the CBA from trading their own picks until 2015 at the earliest.

IF Dwight bolts next summer (which would be a collosal mistake for him, since he'd be leaving $30M on the table to bolt for either (a) a stripped-down Atlanta Hawks team or (b) a Dallas team with an over-the-hill Dirk eating up too much cap space), the Rockets will have enough pieces to commence a rebuild, most notably their own 2014 first rounder, which could be a top-5 pick in that instance.

To use such excuses NOT to trade for one of the five best players in the league is, quite frankly, weak and a loser's mentality. (No offense to you personally, just to that line of thinking.)
