Don't you find it interesting that Orlando supposedly talked with Howard about staying and he said he wanted a trade? Knowing what he knew as of LAST NIGHT, the NETS were out of any contention...he has to understand that. He also must know that the Rockets are the leaders and possibly Lakers. if he still demanded a trade, maybe he's come around the idea of playing for the Rockets? After all, he know whats at stake financially with whatever team he ends up with...

Plus, who says if the Rockets build a championship team all the endorsement deals won't come? Look at Durant (OKC) Lebron when he was in Cleveland etc. I don't think the deals won't come just because he plays in Houston..which also happens to be the 4th largest city with a huge Chinese following too...

The rookies do not need to be signed to play in the summer league. Here's an excerpt from a Chronicle article about Patterson signing. It mentions that he'd already played in 4 summer league games.

He had already gone through two-a-days with the team and played in four summer league games. But signing the contract, he said, "makes it feel real.

I guess they're heavily insured? You would think they would have to be. Glad to hear that they can play, aelliott. Thanks.

I think us having to field a team cuts against us more than Hennigan.

You bring up a good point about the amnesty window -- maybe that's the backstop date for this to either go forward or not.

Watch we are so close to trade and then one of our rooks gets injured tomorrow...

I do think he'll stay and the endorsements will come, but I don't think Dwight has come around, yet. He's still trying to use his impending free agency as leverage. To me, Bucher's claim (undoubtedly planted by Fegan) about the Rockets flipping Howard to Brooklyn at the deadline tells me that Dwight is basically waving the white flag, as it pertains to Orlando and Hennigan. He knows Orlando won't deal him there, so he's willing to go elsewhere and try his act on someone different (Morey).

Ultimately, I think he'll stay when the reality hits him that Brooklyn has no cap room, and Dallas/Atlanta aren't superior enough situations to leave $30 million on the table. But Dwight is thick-headed and it's going to take a while for him to get to that point.

If I was the Rockets, at this point I'd find the next.disgruntled superstar/near superstar and start trade talks with the same pieces you are talking with Orlando about, and make sure it 'leaks' (and when it does, of course, deny it).

As long as Orlando thinks they can come back to Morey whenever they want, they'll keep him waiting and hope something better comes along.

It cuts against Hennigan too, though, because the openness of the Rockets' roster (at present) is a huge opportunity for him to shed dead weight. Nothing about this would shock me, but I'd be surprised if it's not over by Tuesday. The Magic already took Brooklyn off the table and made their last-ditch plea to Dwight, and it didn't work. There's not much to gain on that front. And even if Hennigan isn't that crazy about our offer, it makes most sense to leverage other teams with the Rockets' peak offer, which comes now.

I don't mind getting Dwight Howard. But I don't want to talk all those bad contracts and hinder are chances to squire more talent and better talent.

That's basically Howard making a lateral move. He was surrounded by cap strapped players who were over paid and so we get Dwight Howard and the cap strapped players

So Howard can be in a lackluster location surrounded by the same players he was with in Orlando.

I don't see how we are going to be able to even get those contracts off are books

Still wonder what we are giving.

I know we can get Dwight Howard but its almost like we are helping Orlando and screwing are selves due to the bad contracts.

Or we take Dwight Howard I almost feel like the Magic need to Gove us a few 1st rounders.

Just to deal with him and the cap situation we are going to be in.

As long as we get to keep Lamb, White , and D.Mo im good with whatever deal but if we give away all three of our rooks plus D.Mo Ill be highly pissed. especially if they turn out to be good (ex. Rudy Gay , Batum )

Yes, I'm sure that they are well insured. I'm guessing that they need the insurance just to participate in the practices that they've already been through this week. Just as easy to get injured in practice.

That would still be ideal for us as we would still have Lamb, Parsons and White left over to go along with Motiejunas. That's 4 quality youngs guys to build around Dwight and possibly Scola (if we can get by without cutting him). If we can get by on only taking back JRich and Duhon then we could look something like this:

Douglas/Duhon (or other way around. Either way there splitting the minutes)
    Richardson/Lamb
    Parsons/White
    Scola/Leuer
    Howard/Motiejunas

Real weak at the point, but looking pretty good to great everywhere else and still can go 10 deep.

I'm not sure why my thread got hosed, but I was asking a legitimate question. Offering every draft pick, taking on every bad contract and the only hope you guys are resting on is the fact that you HOPE dwight cares about getting bird right money, is the most insane proposition.

If dwight leaves the rockets high n dry, this will go down in history as the worst trade in pro sports history, worse than the vikings debacle.

Yall can talk about bird rights all you want, but anybody that isn't a little nervous about this deal is completely insane.

I wouldn't play duhon if my life depended on it. hopefully we sign brooks and machado and douglas can play back up. duhon shouldn't even see one minute on the court.
