Put your trade ideas in here. The Astros should have several candidates to be moved in July.

The Yankees may jump in on the Wandy picture. they have CC on the DL and Pettitte just took an arrow to the knee, I mean ball to the ankle and had to leave the game. They have had a pretty good staff this season, but injuries could force them to make a move.

Not going to happen. He's going to play out the season here. I'd even guess there's a decent chance he'll be back as the DH next season...for much less than what he's currently making as one of the top 100 paid athletes in the world.

Lee will be owed $8-9M at the deadline. Astros eat $7M, I think there would be takers.

If the Astros hold on to Lee, what kind of compensation are they looking at next year if he signs elsewhere... Draft pick wise?

Now the only free agents subject to compensation will be those who are offered contracts equal to the average salary of the 125 highest-paid players in the game as they enter the free-agent process.

Coworker of mine is from Cleveland. He used to be a sportswriter for small time papers. He mentioned that the pulse in Cleveland is that they are trying to trade for Carlos Lee and Wandy

Rosenthal reports Dodgers have had lots of talks with the Astros about Brett Myers as an eight inning guy and possibly Carlos Lee since their offense is influx.

Toronto is "all in" on starting pitching looking either like they go after Matt Garza or Wandy Rodriguez or both. Sending scouts to watch Wandy's next two starts.

I have no idea where this should go but... is there a reason why lyles was switched with Wandy as the starting pitcher tomorrow at SF? Close to a trade? Or is that reading too much into it?

Wonder why no talk about trading Brandon Lyon. He is on the last of his contrac and having a solid year so would seem like a perfect trade candiate. Every team could use a extra bullpen arm. Astros should trade anybody of value if they get a good deal in return.

    Nice prediction, moron.

Wandy will likely be on the move assuming the Astros pick up some of his salary. Should be able to net at least as much as Lee did.

Maybe not close to a trade, but just showcasing. Wandy has the chance to look a lot better against Tim Lincecum (6.42 era) than Madison Bumgarner (3.42 era).

I know this is completely outside the box, but should we consider making a run at Justin Upton? This is pure speculation on my part, and I know he is struggling at the plate this year, but it looks like the DBacks' front office has soured on him, and we might be able to buy low on this talented, yet inconsistent 24 yr old RF. His inconsistency is probably because he is still very young. I understand that a trade like this doesn't really go with our rebuilding process, but since he is only 24, he would be 28-29 (in the middle of his prime) during the time period where we can hopefully call up some of our talented minor leaguers. The big question is what kind of package would it take. Since they are reportedly looking for SS and 3B options, we would at least have to start with Lowrie and Chris Johnson. In addition to those 2, what else would it take (at least 1 pitcher I assume). Would you do Jed Lowrie, Chris Johnson, and Jordan Lyles for Upton?

Ultimately I doubt we would give up what the Dbacks would want in return, but I do think it is fun to at least consider it. I wouldn't want to give up any young pitching, so I would try and avoid parting with Lyles, since he is still very young and can improve. But at the same time, if he is a #3 or #4 type SP, then losing him wouldn't be the end of the world. A #4 SP and Chris Johnson I think would be pretty easy to replace. So the question boils down to: Lowrie at SS and Bogusevic/Fernando Martinez/whoever at RF or Marwyn Gonzalez at SS and Upton in RF for the next few years? Although it would be more expensive, I'll take the latter of those 2 choices. What do y'all think.

    Why would Arizona do that?

That is truly an out of the box idea. My big concern would be cutting the legs out from underneath the rebuilding effort without making the team appreciably better in the mid-term. I do think the trade is crazy but the bigger problem I see is we don't have the pieces to match.

Trading away a talented, young all-star requires getting a talented, young all-star in return (or a huge prospect yield) in return. The only player that fits the bill is Altuve. I wouldn't be opposed to that type of trade because Upton does have a significantly higher upside than mighty mouse.

The problem is Upton has four more expensive years on his contract and there's no guarantee we'll be competitive in that time frame. We'd best stick with Altuve, who's cheap and an all-star talent.

Another option would be Lowrie/Springer. It fills their void at SS and replaces their CF with a top prospect.

CJ and Lyles are just trade filler. CJ is barely major league average and Lyles is well below average right now.
