Hopefully that doesn't take TOO long where it comes to a point where Orlando says screw it, they talk to Howard... Howard re-signs with Orlando and we're screwed... :(

Well, not screwed really because we'll still have our young rookies, etc...

I suspect so also. We don't know what our cap situation is until the Offer sheets get matched or what not. My guess is if they don't get matched by Friday Scola is toast.

I doubt he resigns in Orlando but the truth is in my opinion we are screwed one way or another. With Howard not wanting to be here we know we are probably going to have to sign and trade him or something. The question is if we get back a solid return at the end of the day because we are going to be giving up a lot of our future to get this guy.

I read that' it hinges on the Scola amnesty and the Knicks matching Lin's contract. Apparently Asik's offer, matched or not, has no bearing on how this Howard deal goes.

I read this in the Chron. I believe it was in Feigan's piece.

    True, true
But woudn't a superstar like Howard be able to get endorsement deals or deal where ever he goes? Houston is the 4th largest city no? It seems like Dwight doesn't have it all in between the ears and has been played by his agents/endorsers/ .....they really have their heart set on the BKN

Howars was one of my fav players when he came into the league cause I could see even then he was gonna be great and that's just seeing him practicing his drop step in his driveway.

I mean BKN is nice but why limit your marketing potential to just America?
    :p
Les has to have some china connects no !?

Sign and trade him where though? Brooklyn has nothing to give back in a sign and trade. We simply tell him no. You want to go to Brooklyn? Go play for $3 million. If he wants to go LA, ok we sign and trade for Bynum.

I'm sick of waiting on Orlando's GM to make a f---- decision.

Will the Lakers be willing to do this?

There are reports that the Lakers really want Josh Smith. Would they give up Bynum for a package of Josh Smith and Jeff Teague, and they can play Pau Gasol as center.

    Lakers trade Bynum
    Lakers get Smith & Teague

    Hawks trade Smith & Teague
Hawks get Martin (exp), one of our rookies, multiple draft picks

Rockets trade Martin (exp), one of our rookies, multiple draft picks
    Rockets get Bynum

Just throwing it out there, don't be cruel.

I don't think the Lakers or Hawks would do that.

Delay and Passage of Time: who does it favor? I think Orlando. Here's why.

    - All of the Rockets offseason plans are on hold until the Dwight Howard situation resolves.

    - Lamb, White and Jones can't play in summer league (which starts in Vegas tomorrow) unless they're signed (right?), but if they're signed, we cant' trade them for X days (right?)

    - We don't know how to build the roster and what FA's to pick up until the Howard situation rsolves. As time passes, options become more limited, so it's in our interest to close the deal.

    - I'm not entirely sure how the Lin/Asik situations factor into time, but we haven't made the offers yet, presumably b/c if they aren't matched, they eat into our cap room, which limits our options in the Howard trade. So, i think time works against us here too in terms of planning.

    - Mind you, none of this is big, but basically we can't build our team until the Howard situation resolves.

    - As to the possibility of Rockets threatening to offer less as time passes . . . that's not really a credible threat. Hennigan knows damn well we won't walk away from the deal.

    How about Orlando's side?

    - time creates the potential for Howard to change his mind as to staying in Orlando, or identifying a new team he might we willing to sign with, which creates a new bidder. I mean, is it really going to get worse than him saying he wants to be traded and won't extend anywhere?

    - perhaps because of the factors above, maybe the Rockets will get impatient and offer a little more to close the deal.

    - time could create opportunity for another team (I dunno, mebbe the Warriors) to change their minds and be willing to rent.

I'm starting to think that this could drag on for a good long while.

Martin+White+Patterson+Parsons+Toronto pick is probably the max I would be willing to give up for Howard. Honestly, I don't think we should do it unless it comes with an extension. Build around the youth and 2 lottery picks next year. Maybe then we will be able to field a collection of young talent and be able to go out a get a franchise type of guy.

I'd be surprised. The fact is, the Rockets have to field a team, and Hennigan knows that. If it drags on very long, the Rockets are going to have to consider signing a few guys to reach the minimum salary floor (or else, there will literally be no one left). Once the Rockets do that, it compromises their ability on how many contracts they can take back from Orlando. Even if they're 1-year deals, it still ruins it because they can't be included in trade packages until December or January.

Another issue is that the amnesty window closes on July 17 (Tuesday). If no Howard, there's no reason for Houston to let Scola go. He's a solid player, helps meet the minimum salary floor and could potentially be flipped for value in coming years when his contract isn't as long.

If Hennigan wants to get maximum cap relief, he has every incentive in the world to do this in the next few days. I think that's why they went to Howard last night to see if he'd change his mind. It's worth giving him one more chance, but if he's not on board (and it seems he isn't), Orlando needs to do the Houston deal soon.

It's up to the player and/or his agent. There are no rules against it.

Once again, Lin/Asik situations has nothing to do with the Howard trade, just read Feigen's article first before spending time to figure it out.

    Screw Hennigan....

Put Martin+Patterson+Morris+Toronto pick+NY 2nd rounders on the table for Dwight and a bad contract. Let ORL take it or leave it.
