    This is what I speculate.

There is only one team that loses out if Scola being amnestied. It's the Lakers.

They don't have the young players or picks to pull off a Dwight trade on their own.

It doesn't make any sense for the Rockets to advertise amnestying Scola when every other team in the league would prefer to gamble on picking him up on the cheap if he's amnestied.

This amnesty threat is a paid advert.

The Rockets have the means to trade for Dwight on their own and for themselves. If the Lakers don't play play and take on those garbage Orlando contracts the Rockets will do just that.

Maybe. Or you just get stuck in the lottery for awhile waiting on a star. Then you could get screwed by getting a guy who's good enough to help you compete but not really a star and you end up right back where the Rockets were already. Not good enough to win a title, but not bad enough to be high in the lottery.

Agree. But it does add an element of doubt to the calculus.

I would give up everyone on our team plus Les Alexander and Jynx Maze to Orlando for Dwight Howard. I have no idea why Orlando is taking so long. I'm sure Morey is willing to move literally every asset we currently possess to Orlando, and yet Orlando is waiting on some magical deal to come out of nowhere. If they want Royce White Patrick Patterson Chandler Parsons, then great we'll urgent courier Parsons back to Florida in a flash. The Rockets have had literally no one apart from Tracy McGrady Yao Ming Ron Artest for the last decade and its time to go all-in for the 3rd best player in the league.

The trouble is Lex Alexander would NEVER allow this team to rebuild. He would rather be on the verge of the lottery and on the brink of the playoffs for consecutive years rather than invest for the benefit of our long-term prospects. He is a business man, not a bona-fide OWNER, unlike Cuban and Prokhorov.

does anyone know which team has enough capspace/unguaranteed contracts to be able to pull in Scola and only send back unguaranteed contracts/TPE to Houston? I'd imagine a team like the Bucks or the Timberwolves would LOVE to be able to get Scola for free. Adding to that list of potential suitors would be the Trail Blazers and the Clippers and the Nets. THERES GOTTA BE A FAVOURABLE MARKET OUT THERE FOR SCOLA.

Now that the Nets gave the max to Lopez it looks like they can't (or won't) look to bringing in Howard now.

If that is really the truth and Howard can be made to both believe it and accept it, where does he wanna go?

I can't see him staying in Orlando. Even if he changed his mind and wanted to stay I think the team might say "no" due to all the BS he's put them through for so long.

Someone needs to ask him where he wants to go now that the Nets seem outta the picture...

hahaha, I feel your pain brutha.!!! Oh well we wouldn't be enduring all this through all the ups and downs if we weren't true fans, right? ahha =L

Either way I think the PGs were let go with a purpose. If we kept Dragic that would have meant we couldn't go after Dwight as effectively, right? I think all things considered the current landscape is looking good for the Rockets. I just think if we shower and pound Orlando with tonnes of picks and young players they've got to budge sooner or later. Soon you'll see the headlines, HOWARD TO HOUSTON!! HAHAH!! ^_____^

Yes. I posted a FAQ that details this, but you are correct. If Dwight is traded to HOU he cannot get a 5 year bird's right deal and end up playing somewhere else.

Sorry, I will let the doctors sort out his condition when he takes his physical. If doctors say no go, I am fine with that.

The majority of the shoe buying world watches ESPN. If he comes to Houston and stays in Houston, PR will be good here. Besides for Orlando fans and some hard core fans, Dwight's PR will be in good standing well within a year. He is looking to leave Orlando in a decent situation. I have got to respect that he has been upfront with Orlando on his intentions. If he leaves Houston, he will still have made intentions known.

It is a risk, but the best chance the Rockets have at competing again.

Kind of weird how there hasn't really been any "news" today. Things seem a little quiet...

    Calm before storm?

We are going to trade all of those pics and rookies?DUDE IS JUST GOING TO LEAVE.we will be stuck without draft picks after having the worst record in the N.B.A the year after he leaves.I just want to keep our ASSETS and draft a non female superstar that wants to be in Houston.

That may be, but i hope not. My point was only that we don't have to make the deal; we have to weigh that against the alternative, which is building through the draft, and developing the young guys we have. To the extent we are talking about the LA 3-way, we also have to weigh making LA better against not doing the deal and improving on our own (which doesn't make LA better). We have a good alternative that puts us in a position of strength relative to Orlando, which has, in my belief, a worse alternative. In fact, they are actually under a time limitation because going into the season with a new coach, amidst the Dwightmare circus, could worsen the state of the franchise and derail the fresh new start they are hoping for.

But Les is a wild card. I have no way of knowing how or if he would be impacting the negotiating process. I am not saying i know what is going on or that Morey is gonna make a bad deal. All i'm saying is we should not be as desperate as Orlando is to make the deal, and that should give us an advantage in the negotiation; hopefully yielding a positive result for our franchise.

No matter how much Morey thinks he can bluff Dwight, I don't see him sticking around unless the Rockets can immediately surround him with enough talent to have a deep playoff run.

    Otherwise it's Orlando 2.0

    In the West.

All we need to do is convince Duwight's agent to convince him that the best for his client would be to demand a trade to Houston. Why aren't we on the phone with the agent!?!

Possibly. Also could be nothing going on. Find that hard to believe though. If Feigen is right and we were close, we never got info we were that close. Could be the same today.
