So a couple of weeks ago I hurt my right thigh area. I'm not sure what it was but all of a sudden I started getting pain all over my thigh down to my knee. I do run a lot so I'm guessing I pulled something. The pain was so bad I could barely walk, sit, lift, and bend my leg without it hurting. I went to the doctor and he simply said it was more than likely a pulled muscle and I should be fine with some ibuprofen and rest. This past weekend it started feeling a lot better and I was able to do regular movements with minimal pain and no limp when I walk. All of a sudden now I'm waking up in the middle of the night with sharp pain in my upper thigh just right below my pelvic bone. Is there any good treatment you guy have come across to deal with it? Would it help if I stretch it? It can get pretty painful especially when I'm trying to dress myself and get in the car.
You might have the same issue I'm having. I have calcific tendonitis in the IT Band... It wakes me up at night, shooting pain down my leg. You can find different stretches that help on the web. Good article with stretches from Running Times Turns out I'm also dealing with the beginnings of arthritis (in my left knee, too). Guess that's what I get for 32 years of playing soccer.
Sounds like it could be some tendonitis. If it is, you're battling inflammation of the injured area. Take an anti-inflammatory and ice the area when you can to help battle the pain and inflammation (sometimes the injured area will be warm to the touch). Also, you need to learn that sitting/laying in certain positions will flare it up. The good news is that it will probably heal and you can be pain free. Some injuries are just slowwwwwwwwww to heal and require more patience. If you are active, try to do what you can.
Went back to my doctor the other day as the pain shooting through my leg and groin was getting unbearable and lasting 24/7. He gave me a cortisone shot in my hip and used the needle to (hopefully) break up the calcium deposit. This was on Monday. So far, the pain is gone (except the soreness from the shot itself).
I would get an MRI, because stretching could make it worse. In the meantime, you could take anti-inflamatories and stay off of it.
Almost a month later, still a little sore but not as bad as the first day. I guess it would help if I didn't try bike riding until it completely healed.
Might be an issue with your rectus femoris? I wouldn't stretch it. If it's tight it's probably reacting to an imbalance somewhere, so it's not going to let go and forcing it to could make it worse. Have you tried any kind of rehab? Could be a muscular imbalance. Is the leg that hurts the one you plan to kick (opposite of kicking leg)?
