Oh yeah, then you answer the questions everyone has been avoiding in my posts. How long? I get your point but really a total dismantle with your fingers crossed for a player that will cost us everything but does not want to be here but if he makes it her we can not give him support and willm leave after one year because houston can't sign anyone straight up because no one wants to play here.

First of all, the Rockets no longer has Lee. Aaron Brooks would be a back track in our PG play. We went from having two good PGs back to Aaron Brooks again. Aaron Brooks is not better than Nelson. Parsons was a very solid rookie, but he's not Hedo when it comes to ball handling. Scola is good but they will probably trade him or amnesty him. Motiejunas, White are rookies so we shouldn't expect great performance from them. Richardson isn't getting any better but older. That team you listed there isn't as good as the Orlando team Dwight had. At best, they may be as good but not much better.

Anyway, you can say they're better or whatever but still, I'm not delusional nor short sighted. Because even if you think or Dwight think that lineup you listed there is somewhat better than his own Orlando team, its still not nearly enough to convince him to stay. I mean why would he stay in Houston to play with an Aaron Brooks or a Scola while he had an Jameer Nelson, Hedo Turk back in Orlando. Parsons is good but he's nowhere near a reserve all star caliber level. Luis Scola may be the 2nd best player on that team but he's not the kind of player that will make Howard stay. Not anyone in that lineup besides Dwight is an all star.

Dwight Howard's goal is to play alongside a superstar and the Rockets don't have anyone else. Dwight Howard doesn't want to be in Houston and he specifically said he doesn't want to be in Houston. You said Morey can pick up the phone and make a trade or whatever but its not that easy. He can't just pick up the phone, throw in a few players and somehow get a good enough player back that will convince Howard to stay. We don't even have enough asset to trade for Dwight Howard. Even if we traded for Dwight Howard, that will deplete our team of young talent and draft picks so there is absolutely NO chance for Morey to pull off another trade for an all star.

So you think that it is worth giving up all our young talent, our lottery draft picks for Dwight Howard who's going to leave this team no matter what and a few bad contracts that will lingered on our team and cap space which probably prevent us to be able to sign future stars and young talent? You can say the Rockets can just simply rebuild after Dwight Howard leaves but whats the point when this team is left with no lottery picks, and a few bad contract which will delay the Rockets rebuilding process a few extra years... Is that really worth it? Just so the Rockets can make the playoffs for just one season and probably get knocked off the first round by the Lakers, OKC, Spurs, or even Clippers...?

I much rather rebuild this team for the long haul so if they get knocked out the first round in one year, they can just add a piece or two to the team, the young talented players that they have gain more experience and come back the next year stronger and stronger than just trying to make the playoffs with Dwight Howard for just one year knowing that the next season, this team will suck bad and be stuck with bad contracts and no lottery picks to regain themselves a bit.

I am sorry but TheCat, nothing the Rockets or their beloved Morey can do to make Howard stay in Houston. They don't have the big name superstar that he can play alongside with, plus he just don't want to be here at all. Its not like he's not sure about being in Houston, its HE Saying he do not want to play here at all. PERIOD. So anyway, that team you listed, I much rather have our young talented prospect, our future high lottery picks, and maybe an all star signing here through Free Agency later down the road. The only chance for Houston to be able to trade or sign a superstar here, is if they were to draft a top 5 prospect and have him grow as a star which could convince other stars to come play here or be able to trade him for a young disgruntle star that just want a fresh start in a different team. Look at the Nets, they drafted Derrick Favors who is still young, a top 5 prospect and they flip him for Deron Williams, and now Dwill resign with the Nets and they were able to make trades for other very good players to come play there.

The Rockets do need a superstar one day in order to compete, but that superstar will not and will never be a Dwight Howard. The Superstar has to want to be here in order for him to have the motivation to play to his fullest potential instead of a disgruntle star who just wants out.

Just because you have a superstar, does not mean you will win a Championship.

See: Bosh's Raptors, lebron's Cavs, Dwight's magic, etc

What I am getting at, sometimes the best move is no move at all. Maxing out guys like j. Johnson and amare is not going to bring home the bacon. Yes, it qualifies for a "superstar" and would shut people like you up for sometime, but ultimately it only creates artificial success (1st and 2nd round exits).

Ric B on Espn basically just said he believes Dwight won't go to Houston because their offer doesn't meet the bar that has been set by Orlando using what the nets offered as an example lmao! So nets deal was better than whatever Houston can offer according to Ric...

You didn't graduate from UT. Infact, it's painfully obvious that you didn't graduate from college at all.

Hosuton hasn't been rebuilding at all. Until last year, they were locked into following the Les-CD plan of putting a supporting cast around Yao & TMac. Les was more concerned with milking the Yao Ming cash cow than he was in contending for a championship so he handcuffed Morey forcing him to follow CD's Yao-Tmac strategy. IMO, they should have started rebuilding in 2009 but Morey made the Artest deal which told me he was still commited to following CD's failed plan. Since that time, the Rockets under Morey have been circling in a holding pattern as Morey collected "assets" for a big trade that never happened.

Rebuilding is a tricky business - one that can take many years to accomplish if the organization lacks a coherent strategy on how to proceed. It is also imperative that before said organization embarks upon rebuilding, it should have a clear idea of just what type of team the rebuild is to produce. I am not sure that this has been done yet given that McHale is the head coach with no track record of building a team. At this point in time, Morey appears to still be maneuvering to make a big trade for that elusive star player. In truth, right now with things as they are, no one can make any conclusions about this team until we see them settle on a roster and team direction. It sucks but you will just have to wait until the situation plays itself out.

As for suffering, you have no idea what that means. Suffering is going to Rockets' games at Hofheinz Pavilion on nights when attendence was in the hundreds and no one knew if the team would be able to stay in Houston. Suffering is watching them trade away stars like Elvin Hayes & Moses Malone only to see them go on to win rings with other teams. Suffering is watching drugs take down players like John Lucas, Mtchell Wiggins and Lewis Lloyd and nearly destroy the team. Suffering is spending Christmas praying for Rudy T after Kermit Washington damn near killed him. Suffering is watching the "Twin Towers" fall part because Ralph Sampson's body broke down. Compared to all of this what's happening now cannot even remotely be classified as suffering.

Seriously, Garner is right. Just because you trade all your chips for a superstar center, doesn't mean your season would be a success. Dwight Howard is not going to win this team anything not alone in 1 season. Trading for him would be a disaster for this team for the next few years just because after he bolts, the Rockets would have no draft picks to redeem themselves plus they be left with a few bad contracts Orlando threw at us.

Most of you guys just don't get it. Dwight is not staying here. He wants at least another big name superstar to play with and the Rockets are not going to get one anytime soon. Dwight wants to play with players the caliber of a Dwill, Melo, CP3, Lebron, Durant or Kobe. The Rockets have no shot at any of those guys. Plus, to make matter worst, he doesn't even want to be in Houston in the first place. Some of you have pipe dreams of Hakeem can convince him but he's not and even if Hakeem tries to convince him to stay, he's not going to play with an Olajuwon.

So, he wants to play with a high caliber superstar, the Rockets don't have one nor can they get one anytime soon, and he doesn't want to be in Houston so there's no chance.

Some believe that if we traded for Dwight, we can just trade him at the deadline but what team wants to risk having him play for them only a few months anyway before be bolts. At the deadline, his value will drop because a lot of teams will not risk trading high value for him just to have him leave them stranded after the season is over unless he can guarantee he will resign with them like Nets. But the Nets don't have anything we would want so NO. I don't want to trade all those chips away just to later get a Brook Lopez or any things else from that team except a Deron Williams which is impossible because I think Deron is much more valuable to the Nets than a Dwight Howard is anyway. I will not trade Dwight for Bynum because we basically traded the asset for a Dwight just to later get a injury prone Andrew Bynum. Unless the Rockets can flip Dwight Howard for a young prospect with superstar caliber talent, and a protected future lottery pick then its game but no team is stupid enough to risk that except for one team and that's Houston.

Don't you guys notice? Dwight Howard is on the trading block and only Houston is the only stupid enough team that trying desperately to get him. Why is Houston the only team besides the Hawks, Lakers, Nets, and even Dallas that are trying to get him? Because they're are just plain stubborn. Lakers, and the Nets are the only two teams he would most likely resign with, Dallas and Hawks are out of the chase because they are smart enough not to risk too much for him to walk. There are plenty of other teams that can offer way more than us but they know that its not worth all their talents and future drafts for a one year rental with a big Diva.

Can you guys just imagine, the Rockets trade all of our young players, our lottery picks for bad contract and a big Diva and he comes over and play about a quarter of a season and gets hurt and sits out the rest of the year and then bolts as soon as the season is over? That would leave the Magic with two lottery picks, young talent, and cap room while the Rockets don't have young talent, no cap space, and no lottery picks.... If the Rockets wasn't so stubborn, they would finally understand that no matter what they do, Dwight is not going to resign there and just switch their focus on what to do with the veterans in Kevin Martin and Luis Scola. Like instead of trying so hard to get Dwight, they should focus on shipping out their veterans who are still very good players in the NBA to other teams for future draft picks and young prospect. That would help out this team much more than having a one year rental with that Diva Howard guy.

I keep saying it but everyone has stars in their eyes.

When we get DH12, believe me, it'll be a Pyrrhic victory. Amnesty Scola, waive other sucker players, Kmartin + this year's picks + Toronto pick + Dallas pick for...

    DH12 + Orlando's cap-killing rotten-Alpo players

Based on reports it has to do with Houston not wanting to take back salary or not as much as the Nets were willing to take. Bucher is trying to sell Brook Lopez as a top 10 center worthy or the deal, but he's just putting lipstick on a pig. The real deal breaker is the salary they can get off their books in a Dwight deal.

To me, I understand Morey's position here. He can offer better picks, and good/cheap young players, but If he takes on bad salary in the process A. It blocks him from bringing in a secondary star via trade, and B. it makes the team look just like.. well the Orlando Magic.

Getting a Rockets/Magic/Dwight deal done is really key on these elements. They are probably better off offering the farm in rookies/picks then they are taking all of Turkaglo/Duhon/Richardson back in the deal.

Excellent post! My suffering is as a Rockets fan spoiled the the Dream era, I would like to see them put that roster together and stick with it and draft and develop players instead of all this strategic nonsense that has not panned out for houston yet. Although I do remember all the players you listed, Hakeem survived the twin towers and won his championships throughout all the playoff runs where he was hacked tremendously without calls and never made the dream team a played against the Admiral in the playoffs and showed him the real mvp. As for wait and see, its not likely houston will land Howard so I guess its wait and see just like last year and the ones before that like every year around this time ther are debates about morey, when did sacramento realize when to stop believing?
