Dude strategy. His strategy. He wanted to scare Houston off. He knows that none of his prefferred place can sign him in free agency. No cap room. He ttried to scare Houston off. Now tell me; where the heck else is Dwight going to go????>??

After several months of trying to trade Dwight Howard, Orlando Magic general manager Rob Hennigan called the All-Star center Wednesday night to see if he'd reconsider giving him and the Magic's new regime a chance to keep him in Orlando, a source close to Howard said.

Hennigan's call came several hours after the Brooklyn Nets, the team to which Howard asked Hennigan to trade him, made a futile last-gasp attempt to deal for him before the Charlotte Bobcats could sign one of the Nets' key trade chips, center Brook Lopez, to an offer sheet.

Hennigan, the source said, based his plea on the fact that he was new to the organization and had not been party to the issues that drove Howard to make his trade request.

Team president Alex Martins, who also was on the call, the source said, made a similar plea to Howard last winter when he took control of basketball decisions over GM Otis Smith and coach Stan Van Gundy.

Howard was not willing to change his stance, the source said.

"I already heard that from the other guy on the phone," said Howard, according to the source.

Definitely the contract. In new NBA money, his 3 years, $30.7M remaining is not considered a value by any definition. Doesn't help that he's 32 (rebuilding teams would rather go with youth) and his numbers took a stumble last year (15-6 from 18-8), which is a concern for win now squads.

You'd have to hope a low spending cap floor team with a PF deficiency that wants to win enough to keep fan revenue coming would take him....but you may find that they'd want to receive a prospect or pick in exchange for absorbing so much salary.

Phoenix may be the only viable trade partners. I'd say Toronto, but it would have happened with the Lowry move if they were really interested, ditto with Milwaukee. Kings and Cats have no need at the 4.

So all of a sudden, there doesn't seem to be a real market. The only other scenario I could see would be sending him to LAL as part of a massive 3 teamer with Orl (Bynum to Hou, Gasol to Orl).

    Dallas.

And don't be shocked if the petulant Dwight does it as an F-U to Morey.

Even in a sign and trade, Howard is leaving a ton of money on the table.

I don't want Howard because I don't a little crybaby b****, but he will have a hard time rejecting whatever place he lands.

LOL. Dallas is in a worse position than us. We have an extra $30mill to give. Dallas has a bunch of old grandpappies and Lost Kidd and Terry. LOL Dallas?? Give me a break.

Only other possibily in FA is Atlanta. They have enough for 2 max contracts. We may also though. But I think he hates Atlanta, and we have a bigger market.

Dallas without Williams, isn't a preferred Howard destination. His interest in Dallas was purely to partner with Williams.

He only leaves out of spite, not because there are better options.

    Steve Kyler of pHoopsWorld:

-Probably 6 serious suitors for Dwight but everyone has called. Teams seriously, we heard Brooklyn, Atlanta, Houston, Dallas, LA, with the Warriors and Clippers on the periphery. Teams to watch will be Clippers and Warriors. Magic will have dance partners beyond Brooklyn.

-Clippers have never offered Griffin for Dwight. It was always add Dwight to Blake and Chris. Everyone else is in play. They would give you everything but Blake and Chris. Chris will hit FA. He said all the right things but no guarantee he doesn't walk away from the Clippers. If they could get Dwight, they get their big three. Blake in a trade, not once. Neil Olshey, then GM, laughed at the idea. Now they are locked in with him and view him as a franchise cornerstone.

Houston won't take Magic's luggage. Getting Dwight and taking unwanted Magic contracts puts them in the same position as Orlando. Houston is being deliberate in what they're offering. Houston knows they'll need [to put] pieces around him.

    Question?

Say we do get Howard. Can't we just use him in a sign and trade deal after the season in order to get some players and Picks in return? If so I really don't see the risk of trading for him when we can possibly recieve a greater value in return at the end of the season.

Cuban won't do it. Cuban is adding guys with 1 yr deals, looking to make a run at Chris Paul and Dwight Howard next year himself. Help Houston? Ha, good luck.

Anybody have any idea on what a potential trade from the Clippers to Magic would be without involving Blake? This says to watch out for them, but I have a hard time imagining anything going through without Blake. Also, I like what I see about the Rockets. Good to know that Morey is thinking beyond the now.

I agree. I now see Bucher as kind of a smile-to-your-face, greasy used car salesman.

Given all the disrespect for Houston by most of these media guys, I'd want Houston to get Howard just to get them to shut the hell up, even if it was only because their brains short circuited their mouths into speechlessness.

I'm tired, tired, tired of the disrespect. Screw all those media mouths whose primary concern is keeping attention on themselves and their desire to say, "You heard it here first."

We could do that, but we'd probably trade him to the nets for Lopez LOL

Good teams can't afford the contract. Bad teams value the cap space and flexibility more than an over 30 pf.

These type of posts just annoy me. Morey is out there manuvering. Which is a fricken lot better than fans like you deserve.

Such demanding fans. If not for all the little moves the Morey and the Rockets have made your time would be summer leage results.

If we help LA land Howard...

To be honest I don't want either Bynum or Howard. Bynum a first-rate moron and Dwight's petulant shtick is something I'm sick and tired of in the NBA dramasphere.
