No timetable unless Asik walks away from the offer. They can submit it anytime.

You're taking about having meaningful discussions immediately after telling someone to shut up?

    Wow.

We are sending the offer to Asik not only because he suits our need, but also creating bad contract for the other team, which will lower their power of competition overall.

Can it be over already? I mean free agency has some moments that we enjoy in but this waiting is killing us all..

Is Day three Saturday or Monday?
[i.e. do weekends count as a day?]

As Bulls consider match on Omer Asik's $25M Houston offer sheet, one major financial concern is rising future price of paying Taj Gibson.

I know someone has mentioned this before, but I don't want to go through pages in this thread. If Bulls do match, which I hope, Gibson would also be a great pick-up. He's very aggressive on the board, good defensive player, and can finish around the rim. He had some dirty dunks this past season. Still young and I'm sure that he would be a viable option, cheaper than Asik.

Morey's plan. Bulls match Asik. Next summer Rockets throw the same style contract to Gibson next off season.

Bulls are just revamping their whole bench.. I feel like the NEED to match Asik. Korver, Watson, and Brewer are all gone. After signing Hinrich, they don't have any cap space to sign any other free agents.. Their bench is what got the Bulls over the hump during the regular season, with D Rose out and inconsistencies of Deng + Lucas, I don't see them being that much of a threat this next year

@HPbasketball @JonesOnTheNBA They'd have to let Asik walk and dump Korver in order to skirt tax this year. -- Bulls 101 (@Bulls_101)

Gibson wouldn't be cheaper than Asik. He's a legit beast on defense.

Taj is a pf, we currently have a litany of those if you hadnt noticed, we dont need him.. Asik is a defensive C/rebounder and protector of the rim, thats what we need, not another pf who cant protect the rim, so Idk what youre trying to say
Taj is a nice player but is exactly what we dont need

Can anyone answer me this question, is Morey the first GM who's backloaded a restricted agents contract (Asik/Lin) or is this just the first publicized offer?

Yeah but if we end up trading for Dwight/Bynum, most of our "tweeners" and power forwards would be going along with it. If we were to amnesty Scola, add a combination of TJones, PPat, Morris or whoever to Orlando, we could sign Gibson to either start or back-up DMo.. You guys are acting like if we did make a trade, we wouldn't be trading away our "8 power forward" congestion.

Our 4/5 depth chart would basically look like this (hypothetically depending on who gets traded, IF any kind of deal like this goes through)
    PF - DMo, Gibson, Leuer
C - Dwight or Bynum, Jerome Jordan, Greg Smith, Harrellson

I like Jordan and Harrellson's potential, but if by all means, we do get Dwight or Bynum, Morey is going to be looking at win-now and provide a supporting cast around him. Let Smith, JJ, Leuer all develop in the D-League at some point in the season.

    Google "Gilbert Arenas Rule"

From Danny Oneal of the Seattle Times-

If the raise in the third season is greater than 4.5% of the first year, the offering team must be able to fit the average of the entire contract under their cap. The accounting is different for the player's original team, where the player's salary for a given year—not the contract's average—is counted against the cap. In some cases, the offering team can exploit a loophole to create what is referred to as a poison pill for the player's original team, potentially forcing them to pay the luxury tax by the third season. This could discourage them from matching the offer sheet.

Before the 2005 CBA, the original team could only use an exception to re-sign a player who had been drafted in the first round. The 2005 CBA allowed teams to use exceptions on non-first-round picks, with the extension named the "Gilbert Arenas Rule". In 2003, Gilbert Arenas, who had been a second-round pick in 2001, signed a six-year, $60 million contract with the Washington Wizards after his original team, the Golden State Warriors, were unable to match the offer since they were over the salary cap.
