Plus it isn't just leaving money on the table. If we traded for him, after the season there is absolutely no chance he could sign with either of the 2 NY teams or the 2 LA teams. All 4 are so far over the cap that it would be basically impossible to sign him for anything other than the exceptions they will have.

Can't amnesty players not on your roster when the cba went into affect. Basically you can't amnesty players you trade for.

I respect Van Gundy's opinion. It's good to hear a positive spin on Dwight staying if we actually get him. Nice find, Max. Just leave the mods alone, OK? We discussed that yesterday, so I'm counting on you quit hitting on them. They're very busy right now, and don't need the distraction.

So if the Lakers, Clippers (I'm guessing if they re-sign CP3), Knicks and Nets can't offer him a max deal after the coming season when he's a free agent, who besides us can? There's no ****ing way the guy signs for 3.5 mil just to be in the bright lights of L.A. or N.Y.

They're looking for some way to salvage leverage on the dwindling number of suitors. Magic are facing a very harsh reality that they want the moon for Howard when the going rate has been established by Carmelo Anthony (extension) and Deron Williams (no extension).

They want an extended Bynum, a cache of lottery picks, a couple young prospects, and their bad contracts dumped into cap space. The reality is, they can probably only get 2 of those 4.

They don't want to take a step back after trading him, remembering the post-Shaq and post-McGrady seasons. They need to come to grips with the real world.

Why is Scola difficult to trade? Not worth the contract?

    Atlanta, Dallas mentioned most frequently.

Dallas becomes the big concern. They're resetting to take a stab at a Chris Paul/D Howard combo.

Perhaps it's the contract but honestly, I have no idea. For whatever reason, they haven't been able to find a taker yet.

I think Dwight would take the extra money here than go to Dallas. And he pretty much hates his home city Atlanta.

Amnesty candidates include only those that were signed under a contract with your team before the CBA, I think.

In Dallas, he'd be teaming up with a 35-year-old Dirk, Shawn Marion, and a bunch of minimum salaried guys. Won't get it done. HE loses $60 million to sign there outright and play on a mediocre team with an aging superstar.

Atlanta is the only real possibility. He'd be losing $60 million but he could possibly recruit CP3 to lose millions of dollars and sign there outright too.

Oh, BTW, Atlanta is a smaller market than Houston.

yes. The only players on the team eligible for Amnesty are Scola and Martin.

Ha - you think the Rockets are going to try to call that bluff and not do a sign-in-trade? Why is Orlando considering trading him then? Because they know they can't keep him on the FA market.

The words that come from his circle in terms of resigning with Houston: "Not a chance"

Not a chance. Not, "It's unlikely" or "If they did x and y" , but "Not a Chance".

Quote JVG all you want, but this is foolery to get this guy. He's going to break all of our hearts in a years time if he comes here, in a far worse way than he would to the Magic. He has loyalty to his fans there. He has none to us. It's not about the money for Howard, it's about the spotlight. And he will get a lot more than $3.5 million - they will figure out a way.

at this point we can't afford to take back additional contracts. if you trade Scola your ability to amnesty $$ goes out the window

this is predicated on Martin being the big dollar contract getting moved in a deal for Howard. if the Magic have a change of heart and decide they value Scola, his contract would still be useful.
