Understood, as for this trade talks thing. Is it back on officially? Or are we just in this stupid limbo of, "Magic are searching for coach and we as media don't want to say the talks are back on because the only legitimate trade partner in all of this is the Rockets."

Bucher on SC: The Magic yesterday called Dwight to say, look, GM Hennigan is the new guy on the block, he wasn't here when all this other stuff happened. Is there any way we might be able to get back to square one with you and would you reconsider maybe trying to restore and rebuild this relationship and Dwight Howard was saying I've heard this before, I've heard this from team president Alex Martins when he came in last year and took over. Thanks but no thanks.

I wish I had a timeline but fact of the matter is, the Magic now have to go back to the drawing board and they have to find a way to trade a guy who won't sign anywhere but Brooklyn and find a team to take some of the additional contracts off and give them future first round picks. Anyone that wants to say the Nets offer was not an ideal one, I can appreciate that but that's not the challenge. The challenge is how do you find a better one than that and I don't see one immediately on the horizon.

And that's all I caught. May have been more.

We will not be without picks. We will not be without picks.

We cannot trade our own first round pick as part of this deal because of the obligation to Atlanta by way of Brooklyn. the only way we are without a pick next year is if we make the playoffs. We'll then have our first round pick every year after that unless we do another trade. This will not be one of those "Rockets trade their 1st round pick for the next 4 years" type of deals. We will be trading picks that were never ours to begin with.

I don't know...but Bucher seems to indicate they're still looking for an offer they'll take.

The guy wants to go to N.Y. or L.A. He wants to be in the spotlight. He wants a big shoe deal. His heart is set on that stuff.

That's why Orlando is giving up on him. And he doesn't see Houston as anything more than Orlando. And that should be a big red flag to everyone here in this forum. You are smoking some really good stuff if you think the guy is going to stick around....ESPECIALLY after he has a mediocre season here.

Morey is a fool is he thinks he can persuade Howard to stay. Guy has been in the league for 8 years. This is his prime. He is not going to spend it on anything less than competing for an NBA title. He's smart enough to know that he needs other superstar players to do it. He knows he has to play with a Chris Paul or a Deron Williams.

And he knows that any team that trades the farm for him isn't going to be able to acquire those types of players.

Fools gold, that's what people are thinking with Howard. I am all for taking risks and gambles, just not stupid ones. Howard isn't going to stay unless you can put other stars around him.

So tell me how we are going to do that in one year's time??? Because if you don't you can kiss Howard good bye.

I think after a trade didn't happen yesterday it is a total guess as to when one might happen if it happens at all. If I wasn't trapped due to flooding I wouldn't even bother being here today. There's no telling when it will happen or even if it happens at this point.

So I want you to say it Sweet Lou. Say "I believe Dwight will sign the $3.5 million exception to go to LA or Brooklyn after the season and walk away from close to $60 million over three years plus the millions he'll lose my restarting his max contract after those three years expire."

Because that's what he'd have to do. He cannot sign a max deal with NY or LA. So he has to go sign for 3.5 million a year. So put that in a post and I'll sig it and we can have a bet on it.

Can't we just trade Scola and amnesty one of the bad contracts we receive from Orlando?

People here don't know how to take risks. You'll never win big if you play it safe. Go ahead, tank and hope we land a franchise player through the draft. Because that happens EVERY year right?

Getting the worst record in the NBA gives you a 25% chance to land a #1 pick.

Now the % that #1 pick is a true superstar? Probably 50%?

The odds are stacked against teams who tank who are hoping for a superstar in the draft.

You want to wait possibly another 5-10 years to get a star? Grow some balls.

    Yeah, LOL @ you.

    Lance Zierlein‏@LanceZierlein
Yesterday in studio with us, Jeff Van Gundy stated that his shoe contract is one of the reasons that D. Howard wants to go to Brooklyn or LA

    Lance Zierlein‏@LanceZierlein
JVG also believes that if Rox trade for him, that Howard will realize that FA $$ is gone in desirable places & that he would re-sign w/ HOU

Easier said than done. If the Rockets could just trade Scola, I'm sure they would. They're trying.

    No. Not allowed.

You can't amnesty a contract that you trade for. Only contracts that were on your books at the time the new CBA was signed.

Howard has proven the money is what is important to him. Otherwise he would have become a free agent and freely signed with the Nets this offseason.

I do worry about Howard being a crybaby while here, and leaving just to be spiteful, but odds are he won't leave money on the table.

Yeah, it's just too much money to leave behind. Way too much. Prime of his career type money.

What happens if you don't use your amnesty by the time the CBA expires? Do you get two amnesties?

Is there a more obvious Nets Homer on the air? Bucher said the same things on SportsCenter last night. I thought he was going to cry as he preached to Hennigan he made a mistake and practically begged him to wait until January 15th when Lopez can be traded. It reminded me of Costas looking like he was going to cry when they handed the trophy to Les when the Rockets beat his Knicks in 94
