If we do gut our team I hope we at least keep Lamb then Parsons will most likely be staying and Donuts cant be traded. I cant watch J rich be our starting SG

Taking on J-Rich and Turkoglu is not so bad since we need veterans and the guys can still play. Duhon is too much though.

I can watch J-Rich be our starting SG if it means NOT watching Omer Asik be our starting center

Yes. one time deal, the player has to have been on your roster when the new cba was signed.

I think you're the one getting to attached to a player.

The Rockets are getting Dwight but also trading for the same team, the same situation Dwight's trying to leave from.

I very much doubt it will be a situation where we empty the cupboard AND take back a bunch of bad contracts. The Magic can't even possibly take back the sheer quantity of prospects we have anyway. A realistic scenario would probably be something like

    Martin
    Two prospects
    Three picks

    for

    Howard
    Turk
    Richardson

Duhon is only set to make like 3.5 million a year over the next two seasons, so its not that bad....and considering we dont really have a point guard, he can back up Aaron Brooks (If we sign him).

I have no idea where we currently are in salary cap holds, etc. So I need some help here.

I know for a fact Morey is well aware that having Howard here for only one year and not having a contender for that year is pointless, so something creative HAS to be done to make the roster a contender.

    Lets assume the following:
-Neither Lin, nor Asik are on the Rockets.
-Anything that is non guaranteed is waived/cut.
    -Scola is amnestied.
-Duhon, Jriich and Big Baby Davis are the 3 players coming in.
    -Lee is retained

Do we even need to send out Martin? Can't we just straight up absorb the contracts with cap space?

    Lets say its

    Howard
    Jrich
    Baby
    Duhon

    for

    Toronto pick
    Dallas pick
    2 NY 2nds
    Marcus Morris
    Jeremy Lamb
    Terrence Jones
    Royce White

Could we then sign Aaron Brooks and subsequently trade Martin for another piece such as Igguodala?

    Brooks / Douglas / Duhon
    Lee / Richardson
    Iggy / Parsons
    Patterson / Motiejunas / Baby
    Howard / Leur

I would be comfortable with that team.

Hehe. Sorry. Lame attempt, on my part, at trolling these cantankerous vets who jumped to his defense for a few pages. After reading this and all the other crappy Howard threads, I have to do something to entertain myself. I'm just surprised it only got two responses.

I have seen it all when desperate fans try to justify taking on and being stuck with horrible contracts.
Shameful. It really is. How sad.:(

Those two have the worst contracts on the Magic. Feigen's article only mentioned one. No way Morey accepts both.

It's just a fan forum. They don't get a say in the package.

That said, I wouldn't be surprised if Parsons is included. It just depends what other concessions we make whether it's a good deal despite that.

No, I'm attached to winning games and building a true contender. You don't win anything in the NBA without at least one superstar, if not multiple superstars. Superstars are also the hardest commodity to acquire and the most precious commodity in the NBA. Ideally, no, I don't want three of Orlando's bad contracts. But getting a young superstar in his prime is worth it, if push comes to shove. If anyone can unload those bad salaries, Daryl Morey can. The Rockets have an entire team of developmental pieces other than Martin and Scola as it stands. None of them are so good that they couldn't be part of a deal to get Howard. Also, I don't think Dwight views all of Morey's 1st and 2nd year players as some great team compared to the teams he had in Orlando.

Building around Dwight Howard isn't going to be a one year process anyway. You will have the next 6 years to build around him, as he's not walking away from the Rockets extension at the end of the season. I've explained the reasoning for that opinion multiple times.

I would NOT want to give up Parsons either but i think he is probably the most overrated player on our squad. If he is the difference then I think Morey is obligated to send him to ORL. I know it isn't what Rockets fans want to hear but it is the cost of doing business.
