Will no one give us a 2nd round pick for Scola?

I was fearing that it would count towards our cap. Thanks for the clarification!

Big whoop. Les' money, not mine. I'm sure one of the 9000 Other pfs we have can fill his shoes next to D12.

Wow, you posted in a thread, Will. Good to see some of the old crew and veteran members making appearances. I hope this isn't a fluke. Great to see you on the board.

To the poster that said "no thanks" to what is in bold, I agree with you... I would NOT want to trade Kevin Martin for Ellis either... Although I would want to keep Martin as a trading chip either for now (in a separate deal) or wait til the trading deadline and then trade him to get a semi-star/star that Howard would want us to acquire at the deadline, or perhaps before-hand that way he'll be more inclined to stay with us, rather than bolting (a la the "LeBron" route ).

Does Les need to sell more tickets now or does Les need to think about the value of the team 5 years from now?

Answer that and we will know how far the Rox are willing to go. I think they will take some pain to get on TV, but they won't risk becoming a lotto team for the rest of the decade.

And don't feel to sorry for Scola, he can take the the $21 million and go play for the veteran's minimum wherever he wants (er, San Antonio) and feel like he's making $10 million. He could buy his own Euro-team and play on it like Jackie Moon.

At least that's a much better team than Orlando had last year.

Hey Rental guy - you know the team he wanted to go to won't be able to sign him right?
Hey Rental guy - you actually seen who will have cap space in 2013?

Dallas, maybe Utah, Sacramento, Cleveland, Detroit, Washington, Houston, and maybe Atlanta. Of those teams, only one has a true star(Nowitzki) but he is over the hill. Atlanta has Dwight's best friend who is good, but not a true star. Also Atlanta's 2nd best player also plays Dwight's position and I'm skeptical that team could actually beat Chicago or Miami.

...the rest of those teams are rebuilding(Houston included) but the catch is outside of Houston & Utah all of those teams have a resent history of suffering from poor management.

So if your Dwight you have only a few options:
    1. Go for the money - sign with who you get traded to because they can offer you more money. This is why the CBA was restructured - 58 mil is a lot of money to walk away from.
    2. Go for a title - Atlanta gives you a chance albeit not a very good one. Realistically Atlanta becomes Orlando 2.0 Dallas has a star on the downside of his career but that is still a longshot.
    3. Go where you want to go but take less money and know that only rebuilding teams will be able to offer you the max.

...if your still thinking this could only be a rental after all that, then you aren't paying attention. This is the classic "the emperor has no clothes" story. Dwight doesn't have the options he thinks he does - not in the new CBA...or rather he has the options but it will cost him dearly.

Any idea what the deal in principle was today? We know it was those 3 bad contracts, but I wonder what the picks and prospects were.

I'm not worried about "filling his shoes." As I said, I would include Scola in a deal, but to amnesty him so that we can pay his contract and another team can get him for chump change is just stupid. And it isn't just Alexander's pocketbook that's impacted, our cap is as well. An amnestied player's salary doesn't count towards the luxury tax, but I'm pretty sure that it affects the cap.

Morey would take sizable cap relief straight up for Scola; it's a much better option than having to amnesty him. The problem is everyone knows our desperation right now and is using it against us.

Amnestied players do not count against the cap.

This I'd like to know as well! Show us something solidified between the two teams instead of us "thinking and speculating of what the deal could be?"

No, it doesn't impact the cap.

Maybe Morey is trying to take back bad contracts instead of giving up as many prospects.

How would you feel if it was a choice between, amnesty Scola, or trade Lamb, White, etc?

Battier, Hayes, Lowry, all gone. Now Scola. Great philosophy.
