    Pretty much.

I don't mind taking on 3, but at the same time it means that Orlando can forget having Motiejunas or White.

No. If we amnesty him he can't resign with the Rockets.

Are you sure about that? I'm not familiar with the rule, but the only rule I know of restrict players resigning with their former teams applies to after they have been traded away.

Fact - Morey knows he can acquire complimentary pieces.

Fact - PatPat can play next to Howard. Amnestying scola isn't that big a deal.

Fact - Acquiring Howard is to build a championship team in the next 2-3 years, not to win it all next year.

Fact - Morey has given great effort in pursuit of stars or near stars, but for a variety of reasons beyond his control, hasn't landed one. See Bosh, Melo, Gasol.

Conclusion: If there's a deal to be had for Howard, Morey's not going to pass on it. This isn't the time where he's going to be cute and decline the deal b/c he won't take Duhon's contract, or b/c he won't include Royce White. That's not to say that he won't negotiate as hard as he can and keep as many assets as possible.

As Donuts said, if you're afraid of wolves, don't go into the woods. This is a high level negotiation.

I'm guessing that, by now, Morey has offered something like eating JRich and Duhon's contract, plus the toronto and dallas pick, 2 second rounders, and Lamb and Jones.

And Hennigan is asking for us to eat Jrich, Duhon and Hedo's contract, plus the toronto, Dallas and unprotected future 1st from Houston, 2 second rounders, and three out of Lamb, Jones, White and Morris, plus Parsons.

I'm guessing Morey has said no way in hell that we offer an unprotected future Houston 1st round pick b/c that's pretty valuable if Howard does leave and we're a lotto team. He's probably said no to giving 3 first rounders and is holding the line at the toronto and dallas picks.

The question is eating a 3rd contract, and how many of the kids we give up. My guess is that eating that 3 year deal is less palatable than giving up three of the kids.

If Morey can get Hennigan away from asking for the 3rd first round pick and Parsons, who is a cheap, effective starter, then it would be time to close.

My guess is that, in a scenario comparable to this, Morey would say let's split the difference, and I'll give you the third kid that you want, but I don't eat that 3 year deal.

Orlando is going to suck for a while, will have to hit minimum salary anyway, so what do they care about 1 crappy contract. They're more concerned about acquiring picks and prospects, so they say ok.

I'm not trying to say this is the exact scenario, but my guess is that this is close to what's going on.

But bottom line -- Morey ain't going to let this opportunity pass, if there's a deal to be made.

Exactly. If we take on all 3 of those contracts we should only be giving up one of our 3 first rounders from this year and a couple of future firsts.

Yes, we would be similar to the Magic. I don't like the idea of taking all three bad contracts whatsoever.

As to signing Paul, I think even if we get Dwight Paul is a pipe dream. He is happy with the Clippers and after this season will be able to sign a contract with the Clips that we can't match no matter what we have in terms of cap room.

    Bingo!

We are going to be pleasantly surprised by this trade. Further, I have a feeling Morey is going to try and immediately find a #2 star.

Something else folks arnt considering: Howard will weigh the money left on the table by bolting against the extra money he'll get by playing in new York or LA. That could offset the advantage we'd have through his bird rights. I just don't like the smell of all this: raped of prospects and saddled with terrible contracts, only to have Dwight bolt, plus his attitude and health concerns? I'd rather take my chances through the draft and developing our prospects, or get in on the 3 way with Bynum for cheaper.

Absolutely no way we can amnesty Scola. @FakeClyde would not approve.

I'm sure. I read it when the CBA was released. Teams can't re-sign or reacquire players they amnesty.

This! I think Morey has temporarily lost his mind in his desperate pursuit of a "star".

I, for one, can't wait for all of the people that are complaining about amnestying Scola and taking on bad contracts to turn right back around and complain about how "Morey can't get it done" when he refuses to do those things.

If we are going to amnesty someone, I think it should be Kevin Martin. Making more than Scola, and we would have JRich coming in to take his spot, as well as Lamb or White at SG and SF. If we are taking all these ***** contracts, I can see us only throwing in picks to sweeten the deal, no rookies. Too lopsided if we throw in picks and rookies, one or the other only or no deal I would think.
