So getting back to the question, if ACA is repealed what will replace it? WALLACE: But you’re talking about repealing and replace, how would you provide universal coverage? MCCONNELL: I’ll get to it in a minute. [...] WALLACE: I just want to ask, what specifically are you going to do to provide universal coverage to the 30 million people who are uninsured? MCCONNELL: That is not the issue.
If it wasn't for 'Medicare' in Australia, it is possible that my daughter wouldn't be alive today. She is currently getting the best treatment and care whilst on chemotherapy. Do people abuse it? Of course. But it is what it is. There are people who will take advantage of any circumstance. In a country where Blake Griffin gets $95 million to dunk a basket ball, every citizen should have access to free or subsidised medical care. My opinion.
Unfortunately, most people don't think the way you do. For whatever reason, Americans seem to fear government more than any other countries (an irony considering we've never had a dictator or monarchy ever since 1783). For even more confusing reasons, Americans put more faith in the free market instead of their government, a government that we constantly try to push on others as the best.
he grossly exaggerates to make his point. It is always bad for the poor. I know aboriginals don't get great health care in OZ for instance.
I honestly couldn't tell you. I've never seen sicko, and I'm blessed to be in a situation where I've always had health insurance. The system works well for those that have insurance or can afford procedures, but I suppose that's like any system. The biggest problems (at least from my limited understanding) are the self-employed (who have no health care) and the poor (who cannot afford and do not receive it from their employer) under federal law, emergency rooms and hospitals most treat them if they ask for it, and the government must pay for it. What does that mean? The government would pay for your costly and time consuming hospital stay after a heart attack, but not for your cheaper pills you need to prevent your heart attack.
Everyone gets the same health care, a lot of Aboriginals live in the rural areas and it's hard to get to the doctors, but in Australia everyone gets Medicare, pensioners, elderly and poor get discounted / subsidised medicines too. Dental isn't covered though, wish it was. I spent $600 to get a clean, x-Ray and filling done.
So for the 31st time today the GOP will embarrass itself and vote to repeal ACA without offering an alternative. And now that the Supreme Court has upheld the constitutionality of the law they will look even more like fools to the American people.
Today in Houston via TP-- Speaking at the NAACP conference in Houston, Texas, Mitt Romney asserted that he would repeal “wasteful” programs that don’t promote job growth. “Including Obamacare,” Romney said, to a resounding chorus of boos from the crowd <iframe width="420" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/dEByrz4lu24" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
Most of these items are taxed on high income people. Those that affect the middle class mean they do not get the tax break. Not that they are taxed more. ie. 1) Itemized deduction for medical expenses. This is a reduced tax break. 2) Flexible spending account. Another reduces tax break for medical/ dental spending. If you don't have these spending, you don't get the tax break. If you do have medical spending you will be able to deduct less. It's also not true that there was no limit on the maximum dollar amount you could contribute to flex account. The max I could put on flexible spending account was $5K the last 2 years I used it and that limit went back to many years ago.
Instead of insurance for all, why not have government health care? Insurance implies that someone is making money. Why not save the money and have free health care for all. If you can't afford your own insurance, you go to the city or county clinic for all your health care. Put a budget on it and provide the service within that budget. I'd be ok w/ that.
