Why would they do that trade when they could have just drafted Fab at 18 instead of Jones?

I would like this. I would prefer Christmas over Dooling though.

I would rather Sullinger than Melo

If by some chance there were a S&T for Lee to Boston I don't see Boston letting go of Melo or Sullinger

Sully, future 1, and unguaranteed contracts. The Fab Melo fanclub has never watched a Fab Melo game. Daryl doesn't want, we don't want, and even though your fanclub doesn't know it yet, you do not want Fab Melo.

You give them Lee and Jones for someone drafted 4 spots lower?

Actually, I'm not sure this deal will work. I don't see the Celtics having enough contracts to add up to what C. Lee wants (~full MLE).

I'd take Greg Stiemsma (6' 11" C) but Keyon Dooling (backup PG), or Marquis Daniels (SG - SF) are good pick ups as well.

With the Mavs signing Kaman -- barring any salary dumping type of moves -- the Mavs now also won't have enough cap space to sign Courtney Lee outright. Not to the type of money he's looking for anyway.

Why do I bring this up? Well for one, the Mavs were reportedly interested in Lee. Also, the Celtics beat writer who interviewed Lee said he believes the Celtics may not be willing to pay Lee what he's looking for and that he got the feeling Lee might prefer to go to the Mavs instead, where he may not get as long a contract, but more money next year.

we can send Lee to Dallas, and get our potential first round pick unprotected.

Well... never mind. After amnestying Haywood the Mavs got plenty of money left to spend.

Well, that and the fact that Mavs would have a hard time trading its first rounder under the Stepien Rule given that HOU owns a conditional pick from them.

True. I was just trying to make the point that with the Mavs signing Kaman, the one(?) team with enough cap room to sign Lee outright would have been eliminated, making a sign-and-trade, with the Celtics for example, more likely. It's a moot point now, though.

About the Mavs: They seem to be loading up on 1 year contracts, presumably to go after Dwight Howard or Chris Paul in free agency next season, maybe even both. Not sure Lee will take a 1 year offer, not sure the Mavs will make a high $ 3 or 4 year offer.

However, are there no other team with cap room or the full $5M MLE out there interested in Lee?

Another thought: I wonder if we might end up with Courtney Lee back in Houston. Hmmm...
