If the Magic ownership were OK with giving bad contracts to Jason Richardson and Glen Davis. Why not accept Lopez on a 5 yr deal?

That makes no sense. Because if they complete a trade for Howard, and then ask Lopez to sign the 4yr deal, Lopez's immediate response is to tell the Nets to go F*** themselves and sign with someone else he likes, presumably Portland which is a much better situation.

I'm pretty sure they can't since it's a s&t...like he can only get the fifth year by signing with New Jersey and staying

Because a new GM would hopefuly steer them away from locking down on bad contracts so they won't suck in the future? The magic couldn't get a good #2 behind dwight BECAUSE of those bad contracts, they were hampered. Don't want to repeat history...

Adrian Wojnarowski on Brooklyn Radio Station:

    - Deal for Dwight Howard could happen today.

    - Brooklyn in a very dicey spot that their deal could fall apart if not done by today.

    - Orlando asking a lot for Houston to give up for a straight up deal for Dwight Howard.

    - Houston's leverage is by having the Lakers involved and going for Andrew Bynum instead because it can spread out some of the contracts without giving too much of what Orlando is asking.

We do not have to do this deal to the point we get screwed. We always have to hold the thought that Dwight may not re-sign.

"I will walk out here right now!"

Man, we are all over the place. Morey has a huge decision to make between these two guys. One that will absolutely make or break his career.
