This is why Nets MUST move today. They either have to complete sign-and-trade for Howard with Lopez going to ORL or sign Lopez to keep him

You're paranoid they want cap space not a new overpaid overrated C
The GM is a Presti clone-they signed Lopez up they are out
They didn't have enough assets , and nets should of waited on that JJ trade

This, from Marc Stein, is interesting and potentially very big:

Think about this. If you're Brook Lopez, you can't get a penny more doing a S&T from Nets-to-Orlando than you can just signing an offer sheet somewhere else, if it's available. (As I understand it, with the new CBA, five-year deals can't be signed and traded - someone correct me if I'm wrong.)

Lopez is a West Coast guy. Portland undoubtedly has a brighter future and more building blocks than the Howard-less Magic. Why not make the choice Portland/Brooklyn instead of Orlando/Brooklyn if the money is the same? Maybe I'm missing something, but if I'm Brook Lopez and the Nets present me with something other than a five-year deal... I have every motivation to blow everything up and sign the offer sheet from Portland. I don't think there's any connection of Lopez particularly liking Orlando, is there?

I have no doubt that's what the GM wants, and it's what makes perfect sense. My fear lies with the owner, who has the final authority.

I could JUST SEE the Nets Owner/Organization acting like this:

    <iframe width="560" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/dsx2vdn7gpY" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> (pardon the language):

But I decided to share it because it has the catchy phrase: "Game over man... GAME OVER!"

Funny thing is the Bobkittens passed on Lopez in the draft and took midget DJ Augustine in the 2008 NBA Draft.

Watch... Orlando will just take Lopez and Howard will go to Nets and we are all sitting here feeling like our backsides were just taken advantage of.

I hope not, but I would not be surprised one bit

The Magic doesn’t know what they are doing. I couldn’t believe they want Brooks Lopez instead of Rockets better offer package. If they don’t want to trade with Rockets but rather wants Nets, that's fine. We don’t need distraction Howard anyway. At least, the Rockets can learn from all of this so in future, if Magic wants to get Rockets best player via trade, we should tell them sorry it never happens, because you already turned down our offer for Howard so I will do the same thing to turn down your offer for my player. It’s a way of payback time. Like Magic fans, I just dont understand how Nets offer is attractive to Magic and I have no idea why they would want to trade with another team within the same conference. It's stupidity on Magic part.

If I'm Brook Lopez, I tell the Nets to either give me the 5th year or I'm signing an offer sheet with Portland.

Exactly. If the money is identical in Orlando to Portland (and I think it would be), what incentive does Brook have to pick Orlando? Just to please Dwight and Billy King?
