If we sign Lopez to an offer sheet, it is not to keep him. Brooklyn has to match, or they'll be left with absolutely nothing at the Center position, plus nothing to trade for Dwight. And when they match, they won't be able to trade him for Dwight any time soon.

So, if the Rockets sign Lopez to an offer sheet (has to be near max), the Nets either matches, which means he cannot be traded until at least December 15, or not match, which removes him from trade consideration at all. Either way, the Nets deal would be dead.

The Nets will match because the alternative is to lose out on both Lopez and Howard.

For Houston, though, most likely Nets match and they eliminate a competitor from the Howard field. Even if the Nets somehow went crazy and decided not to match, there are still ways to trade for Howard (using Martin's expiring contract) and you can probably deal Lopez for value if you sign him at market price.

I guess the question is whether the "market value" of Lopez is really the max. The one thing you don't want to do is sign the guy to a bad contract that you'll have to pay to take him off your hands.

Anyone who would take Durant over Howard doesn't value defense. And what wins championships? It's not highlight reel dunks, it's defense. I would love Kevin Durant, but he's not available. Dwight is key to anchoring a championship defense. It's not his fault Otis Smith couldn't build a team around him.

    Lebron... seriously

Dwight would obviously need help but I am confident Morry could surround him with role players that would fit the team need..

Lebron was the dominant big man though.. In an era where there aren't many BIGS... it makes Dwight that more of an advantage..

If his market value is really the max, it's not that bad a situation. You can trade him after December 15.... or maybe go "twin towers" with him and Dwight?

    You are deflecting.

I'm aware of how things work, my point is that the only known sources on if Howard will resign have not been reliable, yet so many posters here believe it like its gospel. All we(the doubters) are asking for is a link to someone who we can trust. I don't believe every random source that posts something on the internet.

If this subject was really near and dear to Howard's heart, doncha think he or his agent would have publicly came out and stated it plainly?

Did he publicly state he wanted SVG fired?
I saw an article that said "a source with knowledge of Howard's thinking" say there was not a chance he would be persuaded to stay in Houston. Doesn't mean it's true though.

His agent would never come out and state his case clearly......that would make no sense. I am sure he is attempting to do what is best for his client behind the scenes but at the end of the day he knows that the Magic hold all the cards. They can trade Howard to any team they desire and Howard can't do shyt about it. Once the new team acquires Howard we will see whether he actually is willing to leave 25 million on the table......which in most peoples opinion is highly doubtful. Once you understand the situation it makes sense to take the risk because there is a good chance he will resign.
