So i am from houston and know the area well but i am looking for a new place to live and raise my family. I currently live in Kingwood but looking to open my options.

My focus is to find a house with a good school district and a big lot would be nice.

Woodlands is nice but dont want to be in the woodlands because my family lives there and want to leave at least 20 mins away from them.

    Throw some options out there.

Memorial area -- spring branch isd is great

I'd also say River Oaks, of course, but that requires private schools for sure

Where do you work? That should play a big role in where you move. Commutes are $^*!

In any case, how about Sugarland?

I plan on moving there in a couple years or so. We can be friends.

I live in Rice Military and absolutely love it. The farther away from Shepherd you get and closer to Memorial Park the nicer it gets.

Any of the western burbs (Sugar Land, Richmond/Rosenburg, Cypress, etc) fit the criteria of what you're looking for, but it would seem as though Katy is the place for you. Good schools are plentiful in KISD and you should have your pick of reasonably-priced homes on large lots with all of the building that is going on west of the Grand Parkway.

Really the only downside is the potential commute if you work in the city, plus traffic is starting to become an issue in Katy itself.

It's really not all that bad now with the tollway/managed lanes. My wife and I carpool and we make it from Katy-Ft. Bend Rd. and Kingsland to the Galleria in 25-30 minutes most mornings. When we ride separately, if we leave before 6:40 or so or after 8:30, it's about the same time using the mainlanes. Traffic is bad around Cinco Ranch Blvd. and 99 around rush hour, but I've really never noticed traffic being a huge issue, at least in the area south of 10, west of Mason.

Once they finish that section of 99, it'll be really nice.

The 5th Ward is beautiful this time of year. Anywhere along Lyons Ave would be nice.

If you can afford Memorial, do it. I'm right by Memorial Park and love it. Good school district but lots are expensive.
