Honestly, if Houston gets Howard, I suspect he ends up in Atlanta for the 2013-2014 season. He is from there, they would have the space and he could play with his buddy Josh Smith.

its going to be funny when after all this sound and fury... the rockets end up making a fairly simple two team trade for d12

simply put, no one can come close to our offer, and no one has bigger balls than more when it comes to this game of contract extension chicken

You can make an argument that there are only 5 or so superstars in the league. It's pretty obvious that Bynum isn't in the same class as Dwight.

I thought he never wanted to play for the Hawks? Plus, the Hawks have nothing to offer other than Horford and teague. And I just can't see him passing up 30 mil.

Seriously, people need to follow the money. Howard has to know now, following his back injury, that he isn't immortal. That an injury could take away his career at any time. His agent knows that for sure. So why on earth would he walk away from tens of millions of dollars? People say he can make it up in endorsements, but the endorsements only come if you can play. Even Jordan doesn't make nearly the number of underwear commercials as he used to. If Morey can get Howard to Houston, I'm fine with taking the risk. I didn't always feel that way, but I've been persuaded. Bynum is a second choice for me, but I'd take him if we don't get Dwight. What we shouldn't do, after thinking more about it, is help LA get Howard in return for getting Bynum. If we don't help LA, then Orlando has to look hard at dealing with the Rockets. I hope that's what's happening now.

Finally someone seems to agree with me.

The hell is everyone thinking. Does no one remember Bynum has a history with being a HUGE headcase and a HUGE injury prone center.

Hey we just lost Yao, lets go get another injury prone center.

Howard got injured for the first time in his career this last year.

Everyone on Cfans is assuming Bynum's potential rather than looking at the far more likelihood that he can't produce EVERYDAY. Per 48 minutes don't translate, if he scores 25 pts per game, he may not have energy left to grab more than 5-6 rebounds a game, we don't know.

Dwight carried his team on his own pretty much and still put up 20/15/2 blocks. That is what a superstar does. Also look at

What if Morey doesnt come through again? Just saying, because this is a big possibility. Might actually be more possible than us getting Howard or Bynum.

IF Dwight was willing to walk away from max money, could he sign with the Nets next year and put them over the Cap??

I ask because I believe Pokhorov would be willing to pay the luxury tax to get Dwight and if so, the only thing standing in the way would be Dwights willingness to walk away from his Bird rights.

All you are worried about is your opportunity to bash Morey.

Clutch, will you IP check this guy to make sure it's not another DD account?

I don't think Utah does it, since they have two of the best big man prospects in basketball already, and Dwight is even more unlikely to sign there.

Orlando would also be in the awkward situation of trying to rebuild while fielding a mediocre team (Jefferson & Millsap are both really good players and would make Orlando a borderline playoff team). It's true they could get some nice assets dealing those two guys at the trade deadline, but is it worth losing out on a potential top 5 lotto pick...?

Hasn't Josh Smith been requesting a trade for 2 years now?

No. Especially after they resign Lopez, they are not under the cap. Once you are over the cap, you can't sign free agents except for minimums and exceptions. The luxury cap is another cap over the salary cap if that makes sense.

He could sign with the Nets for a salary of about $3.5 million if that is the MLE type salary next year. It is nearly inconceivable to find a way where the Nets could have the room to offer him a max contract or anything close to it.

This is the NBA. Nash gets 27mil from...the Lakers? I mean, what? Yeah, yeah trade exception. And that was to just beat the Knixies with nothing to offer yet managed to.

The Nyets have made/are making a great run at Howard with...I mean, what?

This is the NBA where - - - - happens. Get the guy, either guy, when the getting is good.

Bynum has potential to be in the top 10. Dwight Howard already is in the top 5. There is a no question as to which player is better. Besides that Bynum has had only 1 healthy season in the past 4 years.

I agree with some of the people that Bynum seems like the safer bet in terms of the extension but i still doubt howard walks from 30 million to go to a mediocre team like dallas.

I'm thinking we are toyin with LA, exposing their trading chips. All we have to do is hang up the phone with the Lakers and call back Orlando. It's our package that the Magic want in this scenario. And if we can mess with the egos in Lala land, all the better.
