The future pick from the Grizzlies went to the T-Wolves in the Flynn-Miller trade that got the Rockets Donatas Motiejunas on draft night 2011 (moving from #23 to #20).

The Rockets traded that pick along with their 2011 #23 pick to Minnesota to draft Donatas Montiejunas at #20.

Our own pick is not gone and will be our most valuable asset should we decide to tank/"rebuild" this year. We probably wont give it up unless we can guarantee we'll be good enough not to make it too valuable. Of course if we make the playoffs it is then conveyed to Atlanta who picked it up from Jersey in the Joe Johnson deal.

Also the Dallas pick is top 20 protected for like four more years. I dont think we'll have it next year as Dallas looks to be sucking for a while.

Top 20 protected until 2017, unprotected in 2018.

The Raptors pick is a guaranteed lottery pick. The Grizzlies pick is lottery protected in 2013. The Rockets also have three 2012 first round selections which was a very deep draft.

We can't trade our own 2013 1st due to us owing Brooklyn a 1st, that is lotto protected.

Basically it would be Toronto's 1st and Dallas' 1st dealt.

We can't move it in the trade because of protections. We can only move it during the 2013 draft.

Actually that got traded in the JJ trade. Atlanta has our lottery protected pick. We can't make a trade with our own pick until we get it back, similar to the Dallas Mavericks's situation with their protections (That's the downside of making those protections).

    The list afaik

Toronto 1st: becomes the Rockets if it's 4-14 next year, 3-14 the following 2 years, 2-14 the two years after that, and if conditions still not met, then whatever the pick come out to be.

Dallas 1st: Top-20 protected until 2018 at which point it becomes unprotected

    Houston 1st: Details below

2nd rounders: Got a couple from NY, but also have a couple of obligations ourselves. Doubt it makes much of a difference.

There are ways around it. For example, we can give the Magic the pick in 2013 if it's a lottery pick. If not, then we give them the 2015th pick instead. It will still be a 1st round pick from the Rockets. Simply the years are murky. Also, if the Rockets obtain an unprotected 1st rounder, then the skip-a-year thing on trading first rounders is nullified. So suppose LA give us their 1st rounder unprotected, which is certain to suck, then we can give Orlando our first without worry.

Apparently traded to Atlanta when Brooklyn acquired Joe Johnson. Not sure how it works technically - I mean it might be fair to say we still owe it to Brooklyn. Then they owe it to Atlanta.

But either way, Atlanta will get it at this point in time.

I believe it was the 23rd pick in 2011 draft, which ended up being traded in the Motiejunas trade.

Is that allowed? I swore back last year Bima mentioned we couldn't trade our pick knowing we owed it to Brooklyn, we must obligate that trade before making another trade for our own pick in whatever year.

Well considering the putrid offer from the Nets I think DMorey should wait a bit more. A few more days and the Nyets might go impatient and sign Lopez, taking them out of the mix and leaving just LA. We can then trade lowball for Howard directly, or execute a sign and trade for Bynum with the bare minimum. They would be getting Lopez and 3 low first picks for howard, just give them the Toronto pick, Scola and KM's expiring for Bynum.

The Rockets CANNOT trade their own 2013 or 2014 first round pick this summer unless they acquire and retain another team's UNPROTECTED 2013 or 2014 first rounder.

The earliest Houston first round pick the Rockets can convey this summer is their first round pick in the year that is two years after they satisfy their obligation to convey a first round pick to Atlanta (via Brooklyn) from the Terrence Williams trade. That will be 2015 at the absolute earliest.
