I said our young talent performing on good value contracts the next 2 or 3 years makes up for the under-performing bad contracts we would get from Orlando, and that that was something differentiating the hypothetical Dwight Rockets from last year's Orlando team. No it is not off topic. My point is that Les is unlikely to add guys like Lee back to the roster if he absorbs all those contracts. It becomes unlikely they would bring Lee back and put themselves in a position to eat the luxury tax poison that comes with it. You'd end up being Orlando.
Easy there, that will be part of the Rockets starting lineup along with a maxed out Brook Lopez b/c that will be all we will get for Dwight when he continues to demand a trade at next seasons trade deadline.

I don't know about the 99%. Why would have opted in at Orlando last season to avoid being traded to Houston if he was willing to take less money as a free agent? He could be signing any where he wants right now without the 7.5% pay increases the team with Bird rights can offer him. Dwight thinks Houston will take a stand and risk losing him for nothing. If playing where he wanted mattered more than the money, he would have finished last year in Houston and Clutchfans would be hanging Morey for having a one year rental. Not to say it is a lock that he would re-sign with the Rockets if traded here, but Dwight wants to get paid the max with maximum raises.

This. I think there is a MUCH better chance than most people think that Dwight would sign an extension here. The money is clearly very, very important to him--he makes that clear both by his actions, and the amount of pressure he is trying to put on to get traded where he wants to go.
Why is everyone so down on renting Dwight? He's basically a built in sign and trade deal. We might get some pretty nice pieces for him.
I think we would get less than what the Nets are offering right now which is less than what we would have to give up. Some seem so sure he will sign an extension here, then let me ask you this, why is Sac not offerring Cousins, Minn not offerring Love, Dallas not offering Dirk, etc? If you think he is not going to pass up the money then why are we the only ones (which hopefully we are not even in the running) besides the Nets trying to trade for him? I also love the ones that think we will lock in Dwight and some how get CP3 to sign here. So Dwight won't leave money on the table, but CP3 will leave a good situation that he apparently likes along with a boat load of money?
Even Morey's bad moves have potential to turn out to be good moves. The Magic would REALLY want the Rockets 2013 pick in a Howard trade/rental. The Rockets would be terrible if he bolts and the great thing about the Williams trade is we get to keep our pick if that happens.
Terrance Jones + Lamb OR White (or flip one of these guys for first round pick if Orlando doesn't like them) Raptors pick Mavs pick Patterson OR Motiejunas Kevin Martin + Filler/unguaranteed contracts That's about it for me and that's pushing it. I cringe when I think about the drama that could ensue with Dwight, but I still think you have to take that chance. I was much more willing when Deron Williams was a possibility too but I suppose we could still try to land Josh Smith now or Chris Paul next summer to pair him with.
Without either Lowry or Dragic to run point, Howard won't be worth all that we'd give up to get him. I'd rather go to war with what we have (after finding another PG or potential C) or trade for a nut job like Bynum or Cousins for half of what Dwight would require.
