If the market value for Humphries is, say, 1yr/$7mil, and Cleveland is forced to sign him for 2yrs/$15mil, then essentially they get a 1st rounder for paying an extra $8mil than they could have.

For reference, the general deadweight of a contract they can rid yourself of with a mid-20s pick is in the $3~4mil range. For example, the Blazers bought Rudy Fernandez by taking on a $3mil contract and getting paid $3mil. The Rockets once took on $7mil of Jared Jefferies contract while getting a fairly high potential 1st rounder(eventually pick 16), a rookie lottery pick(Jordan Hill), and $3mil cash.

To put it more succinctly, a pick in the mid-20s is not worth that much.

    He should fire him.

It's obvious that his agent is not looking out for him. If you are not a superstar player then a one year contract is a terrible idea.

Anything could happen. He could suffer a serious injury or he could simply just have a terrible year and never quite gain the interest that he has this year back ever again.

It's good to see a guy not willing to be taken advantage of.

Fegan seems to have bitten off more than he can chew in trying to get this deal done. You gotta love the effort though.

QRich is dead money. Back problem. Hasn't played basically in a couple years. Dead money and dead roster spot. Hump is a decent player, not worth $25 million or whatever over 3 years. And definitely doesn't make Cleveland a contender. Cleveland will never do the deal as proposed. They were simply involved to keep tabs on what's going on. They're not that stupid.

Is Asik worth what he was getting? How about Lin? Many people around the nation are saying we would be overpaying for those two guys. If Cleveland thinks it makes them a better team than they make the move obviously.

Point is I don't think they were doing this to help out any one but themselves.

Asik is worth the money because one team on the FA market offered him that much.
Lin is worth that money because one team on the FA market offered him that much.
If Humphries was offered a certain figure on the FA market, then he is worth that money.
So far Humphries have not been offered that much, or at least his agent isn't trying hard enough to get him that much on the FA market. And certainly Cleveland doesn't think he's worth that much, or they'd have signed him outright as an unrestricted FA>

I would have already fired his arse... fegan is obviously not lookin in the direction of khumps best interest.... khump knows this and is insisting his agent get him multi-years yet his agent is insisting on a one yr contract so he can get another client max dollars in huge market... if i was khump id be overly pissed and fire him and look for other options...

His agent isn't trying to get him anything but a S&T.

Also though Cleveland would do this for the draft pick as well, they can't acquire that just by signing him outright.

I got a probably stupid question. If D12 didn't want to stay with the Magic, why did he sign his player option back in May?!?!?

So that they would have more time to trade him and he could get his bird rights deal

No I understand why the Magic would want him to sign, but it was a PLAYER option. Whats a bird rights deal?
