I would be fine with that. We can replace Lee, and may already have done so, and for less money. but Asik? You can't teach 7 feet, and you can't teach a solid defensive center. I would take Asik over Lee anyday, and twice on Sundays, so I hope you're right.

I guess the calculation is this: What's Chicago's probability of matching if the Rockets just make the offer? If it is close to 100%, then you will consider enticing them (under the table) not to match. If your intelligence is that they have a very small probability of matching (or better yet, a 0% probability for matching), then you probably shouldn't offer much in enticement and just play chicken with the Bulls.

Why discuss something that is illegal? It will look mighty suspicious if we do a SnT Chicago soon after they refuse to match. I'm sure the league penalties would be harsh.

Besides, Lee can bloke the SnT, so Chicago would have no guarantee of it going down even if we do some agreement under the table, unless we involve Lee and his agent ... then that becomes very dangerous.

Let's not talk about illegal maneuvers. There is plenty of legal things we can discuss.

And that's one of our team's biggest needs. That and shot blocking

Wait them out. They wont match. Even if they do its fine. Bulls shouldnt be worrying about a guy like Asik with Rose's injury. They are done if they have to make moves to keep him or lose him outright anyways. Might as well be done and not paying the luxury tax at the same time.

Bulls can afford to cut a guy like Boozer that is still offensively valuable...much more than a guy like Asik. With that being said...if they match...they will have to deal with the reality that they may not be a very good team this upcoming year...till Rose is scheduled to get back(looking like around january)

With the team assembled like it is now we need much more than just rebounding and shot blocking.

Hey Bima, or CH, does this mean the Bulls are unlikely to match now with the new cap rules?

The rules are not new. The luxury tax level is the same as last year's. The Bulls face the same situation as they did when this signing was first reported: Match Asik and pay tax this year and beyond.

That was the old luxury tax rule, hasn't changed recently. Apparently it will change two years from now into a $3 for $1 rule which is why we're poison-pilling everybody we can possibly get our hands on. Years 1 and 2 won't hurt like 3 will.

Well first of all we need to field a team that will at least have a legitimate shot at winning a game

And we're supposed to field said team by ignoring the need for rebounding and shot-blocking??
