How can New York possibly afford the amount of lux tax they're going to be paying. Aren't they going to effectively be something like a $300M team if they match for Lin? Even the Yankees don't field that kind of payroll.

Not when you're paying 3.5x the amount due to luxury tax.

Probably a fair contract for a guy coming off of arguably the greatest 3 point shooting season of all time.

No. According to reports the last year is a team option.

More proof that if you can do just one thing consistently at an elite level, you can get paid at around the MLE salary and stick around in the NBA.

    Novak-3pt shooting
    Evans-Rebounding
    Bol-Shot blocking
    Battier*-Drawing a charge

*-I'm referring to Battier after he ceased being an elite defender

    I was kidding :)

I was implying Lin should get a player option in Novak's deal, since he helped him get it.

Novak should give a third of this contract to Jeremy Lin

Not going to be 300M. Assume their payroll at 100Mil, they pay luxury tax for the salary above 69mil, and on average they pay about $3.3-3.4 for every dollar(too lazy to look at the luxury tax table) above the threshold, so they'll pay another 31mil x 3.3, which is around 100 mil in Tax. So they'll have to pay 200M in total.

Can not be forgotten. Imagine what could have been with VSpan if he wasn't benched.

    *waits for DonkeyMagic or SamFisher*

A lowball contract for someone who deserves the max.

My thought as well. Novak came of age when Linsanity happened. I don't know if Lin made him a better player. But I think he owe Lin some of it.

and Lin owes us some of his $$$ too because if we hadn't cut him, he'd be burried in the bench and no one would hear about him.

I really like Novak. Wouldn't mind seeing him on the Rockets again at some point in the future. Probably the best 3-point shooter in the NBA. I remember Padgett saying that he will never lose a 3-point contest...after their first workout together or so.

Still a Yankee-like, crazy amount of money though. And are you factoring in Camby?
