I have mixed feelings about this. I enjoyed Ish when he was with us - but at that time I thought he may be one of those players who slipped through the cracks only to emerge as a potential star. I think, at this point, we can safely say Ish Smith is never going to develop into a star. It's arguable if he'll ever even be a quality starter in the NBA. Nonetheless, I liked him and wouldn't mind seeing him on our bench again.
I will have to say this, to all of those people saying players hate playing here (Kevin Martin, Lowry, etc) there are also a lot of players that do like to play here (Scola, Brooks, Ish, Landry, Hayes). Brooks, who left with a bad taste in his mouth, knows now that the NBA is a business and he knows that he still has a lot to offer an NBA team and knows that Houston will give him a chance IF he takes advantage of the time given. Ish, too will be able to maximize his opportunities in Houston. I would be OK with Brooks, Machado, Ish as our PG situation for next year if we are looking to rebuild. Lin would be nice as well.
The Rockets are a run and gun team, much more so than the Magic were. Ish fits into this style very well and it is a relief to have him back with us, especially after the doubts of not having a middle tier point guard thus far
Yeah, we could be seeing Brooks/Ish/Machado covering the point this season, which is fine if we don't get Bynum or Howard and are rebuilding.
his ceiling=rondo his floor= the V-span of houston. I'll settle somewhere in between. Since the lakers playoff series, these past three years seem like an endless groundhog day. How long was it that ish suited up for us?
It may sound crazy, but I do see him having rondo potential. We'd better sign him to a long term non-garanteed contract.
Man I love the way this guy plays and if we are gonna truly go young why not bring in a Young guy who will run and gun , while setting up our young players in positions to score. http://youtu.be/wgUqtcpREY4 http://youtu.be/CH0kI25k2Ig http://youtu.be/XVPZp528WsI
How can people saying we're making progess when we're resigning players we previously gave up on? All the while, other teams are significantly getting better
Great Move I like this move If we are truly going young than why not bring a Pure PG for cheap that will run and gun while putting our young players in the best position to score. http://youtu.be/wgUqtcpREY4
I see. Signing players like Michael Beasley and trading for Ryan Anderson makes teams significantly better. Face it, barring a massive trade, the Rockets probably won't be in the playoff conversation and won't swing for a signing just for the sake of signing. Rockets are just picking up young players they see with potential. Ish showed flashes, but spent a lot of his time on the bench. Rockets are making progress toward a season of tanking/rebuilding. That requires forgoing instant upgrades to the roster in favor of long term sustained success and the chance at developing a star player.
Highlights of Ish the Dish Smith incase some of you forgot. <iframe width="420" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/vsTff30zd3E" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
Having Ish, a capable starting point guard, does make our team more stable, thus giving us a better outlook, as far as direction.
Ish Smith has ELITE handles. If given a real chance and starter minutes, I think he dishes out 8 dimes a game.
