We'll be complaining because players are treated like assets due to our willingness to trade for a star player.

We'll also be complaining if we are loyal to those players and hold on to them for too long, treat them like family as you put it. (Yao Ming)

It's a lose/lose situation with you people, so who cares.

Didn't you hear the recent news about andrew bynum willing to sign an extension here? He is the second, if not the best center in the league. Why do u think someone like him would say that? Umm... he would definitely be offered a max contract, he would without a doubt be the number 1 player on this team (assuming no other star comes here later), and believe it or not Houston is a big market city too. Pretty sure andrew bynum jersey sales will increses greatly if he were to sign here...

I'll agree with you on the weather, but you're severely underselling Houston. There's plenty of culture here and plenty of things to do, you just have to look. I guess everyone has their own interpretation of what that means and different interests to go along with that but to say that there is no culture here is about as ignorant a statement as one can make. I'm sorry that your life here is terrible, and hope you find whatever it is you're looking for as you emigrate to greener pastures. Just keep in mind that Texas is on the upswing and the current trend has people leaving California and re-settling in the Lone Star State for good reason.

Are you serious? LA and San Diego has someone the best food from around the world. Especially Hispanic and Asian. Its pretty clear you never left Texas in your life. Again I love Houston with all my heart, but you need to explore the world a bit more.

For a bunch of uncultured hicks I'm proud of Houston for building the second largest theater district in the nation. Also we have some great museums. And as someone noted before, Houston is one of the greatest cities to be if you like to dine out. How many cities have as many unique restaurants as we do?

California is beautiful, I'll agree with you. But living somewhere and vacationing somewhere is a different ball game. I prefer the ability to find a job and affordable housing.

Ok. Can you give me a few examples of teams that 'have an identity' and 'treat their players like family' that have attracted stars by their virtuous behavior?

-Do you think the presence of Mike D'antoni was a significant factor in Carmelo and Amare wanting to go to New York?
-Do you think the presence of Eric Spoelstra was a significant factor in Lebron, Wade, and Bosh going to Miami?
-Do you think the presence of Mike Brown and Vinny Del Negro are significant factors in the general appeal of the Lakers and the Clippers around the league?
-How about well-respected championship-winning coaches like Popp, Rick Carlisle, and Larry Brown? Are players clamoring to play for them?

There's just nothing to support the idea that stars would want to play here if Morey were nicer. In the majority of cases, stars want to play with other stars in flashy destination cities. To believe otherwise is wish-thinking.

Same reason everyone wants to work in Houston.

Cheap cost of living and no income tax.

But remember we are talking about NBA stars here, I dont think they care at all about living costs and affordability of Housing. If you had a 5 year 100 million dollar contract would you really choose Houston? Again I want to stress, Houston is a great place to raise a family, due to low taxes and living costs. But for NBA superstarts........... thats a wholenother story

And an NBA star can have breakfast in San Diego, lunch in St. Louis, and nail a stripper in NY after dinner if they wanted to. Where they live doesn't matter, they just want a winning team.

I just don't agree with you that Houston is such a terrible city to live.

Man sure sounds like your backpeddling in a hurry!

"None.....honestly if i wasn't born and raised in Houston, I would never come back here. Its hot, urban sprawled, no culture, and just a hick town. My goal in life is honestly to get to California"

This is why I support........tanking, I believe superstars these days have to be drafted and stay with the organization just as Yao and Hakeem. If a city like OKC (which we can probably assume isn't even on the same level as Houston) can keep their superstars. We shouldn't have a problem either. Its just that superstar Free Agents arent going to choose Houston because they have all the money in the world, and cheap living costs and low taxes isnt going to drag them here.

Some must care or just plain like Houston, because there are a number of former players and many who never played here that make Houston their home. Camby is a good example just like Shaq.

Well taxes are an influence. Many pro athletes own homes in Texas for this reason. But sponsorship money can make this not an issue, and you will get more $$$ for playing on winning team.
