Even if it's a little late, if we're rebuilding this year we're not missing much

Practically speaking, the Rockets could've started their tan...err... rebuidling process two years ago, when it was truly clear Yao's career was over. And I've been fairly vocal in thinking we should've blown up the team at that point. We did end up running in circles the past two seasons, but in the end, I think the results aren't bad.

The Rockets got a lottery pick out of developing Lowry. And it's a good possibility one of their picks is going to develop into a secondary star, a 2nd or 3rd best player on a contender. And they are likely going to suck the next two years, which they might not be had they tanked hard the past two seasons. Overall, I think we have a running start on rebuilding. Most rebuilding teams start with crap. At least we have White, Parsons, Lamb, Jones, Morris, Patterson, Motiejunas, and a future extra lottery pick from Toronto.

Probably what I hate most is having to root against my team winning. Deep down inside my heart, I want this team to have another 14th pick next year, because it would mean our youngsters have developed a ton. But in my head, I prefer they don't reach their potential for another year or two.

I'm fine with the 14th pick if it means the young guns are shining and the team has potential to grow further.

Even though Morey had been under a lot of scrutiny over these past couple of years about his vision as a GM. I can't help but to speculate that this could be the WHOLE plan the whole time as in it was not JUST to be in mediocre nightmare. The mediocrity the Rockets was in for the past 3 years were to recruit decent rookies, and this time right now in the "rebuilding" process is us developing the rookies while trying to get a high lottery pick.

If this is all true and the future was in Morey's perspective the whole time, I can't help but say Morey is a genius when it comes down to it.

Not to mention we will end up with at LEAST one 1st round draft pick from either Martin or Scola. I believe we will end up with three first round picks this year (1 from 1-6, 1 from Toronto 6-12 and another from 18 to 25 from Scola or Martin).

So, if all things go towards YOUNG and gun I believe our lineup will look like this:

    Lin, Brooks, Machado or Ish
    Lamb, (off season signing)
    Parsons, White, Morris
Patterson, Donuts, White/Jones, Jon L, (pick a forward)
Someone like Ian Mahinmi, Greg Smith

Add three first round picks and one or two second round picks and that is promising. I think Patterson will have a 150% increase of productivity on Rebounds and Points from last year and has a chance to be traded by the deadline.

I'd love to sign Greg Oden to a flexible contract with incentives. He would be perfect for a rebuilding team like us, IMO. Low risk VERY high reward if his one-year absence has helped.

I don't see us getting that pick next year or the year after that. It is top 20 protected.

We need to trade Scola or Martin. With both of those players, we won't be last 3 or 5. We have very nice assets/young players. We just need to get all-stars through the draft!

I do not mind going through an actual rebuilding phase for two more years if it means we can get a top 3 draft pick the next two years! (which hopefully means two all-stars)

Eh, you're fantasizing. The plan was to trade for a franchise player. That we have some decent players on rookie contracts is more of a consolation prize than a goal fulfilled.

Agreed. I hope we sign him too since he probably wont be asking too much money in light of the current course of his tragic career.

I think the Rockets were tanking when they started Chuck Fricking Hayes at center. They just played better than expected. It's not like they broke the bank for free agents over the last two years to be a 9th seed.

I believe we will see it when it becomes unprotected in 2018. Mavs are looking like they will be bad for a few years. Lost Terry and Kidd this off season. No legit center. Lost Chandler and Barrea last off season.

The only problem with that thought is as much as i hate stern he saved us big time with stopping that trade.if that trade goes through we would have made the playoffs, got swept in the first round and we wouldnt have these rookies and i wouldnt be even a little excited like i am now.

Houston won't even be a 9th seed as things stand. Wolves, Blazers, and Hornets are all making solid steps forward. Even the Suns aren't going to go too far backwards with Dragic/Marshall taking over for Nash. Kings putting Robinson next to Cousins gives them way more firepower than our entire roster.

We'll see where things stand on Halloween, but this team is looking like a 30 win club as assembled.

    Nobody
    Scola, Patterson, Motiejunas, Jones, Aldemir
    Parsons, White, Morris, Leuer, Forbes
    Disgruntled, Lamb
    Nobody

    WTF, Wizard.

Real Talk ..Rockets have a running head start on rebuilding. Dwight Howard would just set us back. and even if we got Howard we'd still have to REBUILD around him. And or most promising rookies and picks would be gone. White, Lamb, Monteiunas..most likely gone!! If rockets rebuild and rebuild the right way, the could be OKC thunder in 3 years.

    Ish/Machado
    Lamb/Livingston
    Parsons/White/
    Montejunas/Morris/Jones
    Leur/Holman/Smith

    Raptors pick + our pick.

Hopefully we can trade Martin , Scola & Patterson for young players/picks.
SnT Lee to the Celtics for picks.
SnT Camby to the Knicks for picks.

Rebuild/Tank 2 season...and Rockets will be well on their way!

Greg Smith is a youngster. Is he still growing? I wonder what his ceiling might be.

It's QUITE clear that Morey is shoving all his chips into the pot and saying "superstar or tank". He's tired of trying to trade up for a top 10 pick and failing.

This is basically Morey saying, "we might have enough assets to land a superstar in trade. If we don't, at least we'll finally have a top 10 seed in the lottery and a real chance at drafting a superstar."
